Charming British comedy

"I was in some strange territory. Was I frightened? I was petrified."

I usually enjoy watching these types of heart-warming British comedies, and About a Boy is certainly no exception. This one has a lot more heart than some other comedies I've seen over the years, and the great cast certainly help the film majorly.

Another enjoyable Hugh Grant rom-com!

Another soppy (not bad) Hugh Grant rom-com was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard of his film and saw a couple of pictures and the poster and this is exactly what I thought of it. It was an enjoyable film that was inspiring, funny and emotional. I don't really know why but it reminded me of Billy Elliot. Also, I have to say that About A Boy is a very predictable film with consequenc... read more

problem is there is no real beginning, middle and end. I like Hugh Grant - and he is typical comdey in this but lacks something. enjoyable just not unmissable.

Description: ABOUT A BOY stars Hugh Grant as Will Freeman, a proudly self-absorbed 38-year-old Londoner. Living lavishly off the royalties from a hit Christmas song penned by his father, Will excels at nothing except doing nothing, which, in his case, includes shopping for CDs and having his hair "professionally disheveled." When Will makes a guilt-free exit from a brief fling with a single mom, he decides to crash a meeting of S.P.A.T. (Single Parents, Alone Together) in pursuit of more single mothers. This scheme leads to meeting Suzie (Victoria Smurfit) and Marcus (Nicholas Hoult), the socially awkward 12-year-old son of her fla ... (more)

"23/3/17 Delightful British comedy with Hugh Grant playing against type as a womanising rich kid who finds his life turned upside down when a fatherless boy enters into his life. Based on Nick Hornby's book, this sweet-natured tale has plenty of decent laughs and a terrific score by Badly Drawn Boy. Haven't seen it for a while, still just as enjoyable."

A very good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and maybe I should re-watch it at some point. My wife and I always had a weak spot for Hugh Grant but, let’s be honest, even though the guy always had some great charisma, he eventually has/had a rather disappointing career after all. The issue with this actor is that he has always been quite vocal about the fact that he finds the acting business actually rather tedious and I’m afraid it shows in his work. Still, he did make a few very good movies and this one is definitely one of them and he probably gave here his best performance. Indeed, even though he actually played his usual charismatic and womazing bachelor, he finally managed to give this character an extra layer and it worked really well. For the Weitz brothers, it” read more

"For those of you who haven't seen this movie, you can probably figure out what the plot is about just by the title. Actually, when you really think about it, the title of the flick sorta defeats the whole purpose of these description boxes. Anyways, besides being about a boy, there's also enough of the uber-gorgeous Rachel Weisz in the film to help qualify it as one of my favorites of '02. "
