Beating Hearts Like Morse Code

On Sire Jeunet:
I so adore Jeunet's masterpieces ever since I saw Le Fabuleux Destine D'Amelie Poulain which, by the way, I’m itching to write a review for. Jeunet’s (or whoever is responsible for it) cinematography is brilliant: so vividly delightful to the senses and almost Lomography-like. I love his pacing and his well-written script, even though French is fucking hieroglyphics! He ... read more

I always had some mixed feelings concerning 'Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain'. On one hand, I really admired the craftmanship behind it and it was visually definitely a real beauty. However, on the other hand, I thought the story was ok but nothing really amazing and, above all, I was annoyed to death by the hype surrounding this flick, first in France and than in the rest of the world. So, I... read more

A movie with the same 'Amelie', but without the original way to make films..Neverthless the images of fightings during the Great War are, in my opinion, amongst the best ones on that horrible and cruel war, when Europe felt down within a new Dark Era..

Five desperate men shoot themselves in order to be relieved from the horrifying frontline at the Somme, in WWI. A court-martial decides to punish them by leaving them alone in no-man's land, to be killed in the crossfire. Then all hell breaks loose and they all die. Or not? One of these men's fiancée, a young girl who can't walk since age 3, receives information that makes her suspect his boyfriend might have gotten away alive. So she embarks in a painful, long and often frustrating ordeal to find out the truth.

" DVD- 2hrs. 13min. First Viewing Completely engrossing and utterly gorgeous, A Very Long Engagement is almost perfect until it's final 15 minutes, which feel like a real cop-out. Otherwise, there's not a department where this movie isn't stellar. "

A very good movie

However, on the other hand, I thought the story was ok but nothing really amazing and, above all, I was annoyed to death by the hype surrounding this flick, first in France and than in the rest of the world. So, I didn't know what to expect from the next feature directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou. By now, I have seen it twice and, to my surprise, I really enjoyed it and, as a matter of fact, I think it it is better than 'Le fabuleux destin...'. Indeed, it was visually as impressive but I thought that this time, the story was more straightforward (a young woman looks for a lover) but ” read more
