I had never heard about this flick before but since I have a weak spot for Connie Nielsen, I thought I should check it out. Eventually, it was not bad at all. It is one of those typical drama about an orphan looking for a new home. At first, there is some difficulty but then, they get along fine and at the end, there is an obligatory dramatic climax to keep you on the 'edge'. You know the drill...... read more

Description: Maire (Connie Nielsen) transforms an orphan boy’s world when she brings him to live in her small island village, off the coast of Ireland. Her reticent husband Alec (Aidan Quinn) can barely hide his disappointment when he meets the frail, shy eight-year-old. Undiscouraged, Maire introduces Thomas (John Bell) to the wonders of his ne ... Film Diary - August 2013 (35 movies items)

" TV (RECORDED TO DVR) / New to me Date watched: 15th August, 2013 Project: None Why: I forget why. Director: Vic Sarin Thoughts: Nice little film. Enjoyable for what it is albeit not the greatest. A few accent issues too (none of the main cast are Irish... not sure anyone is). Just read that this is based on a book set in Scotland so not sure why the change to Ireland. Watch again?: Maybe, wouldn't seek it but not avoid."

It is one of those typical drama about an orphan looking for a new home. At first, there is some difficulty but then, they get along fine and at the end, there is an obligatory dramatic climax to keep you on the 'edge'. You know the drill... So, it is nothing really original and actually quite predictable but I thought it was rather well made and well acted so I must admit I did care for the characters. Still, why on Earth would they pick a Danish actress to portray an Irish woman ?!? I mean, Connie Nielsen was fine here but there is actually no reason why she should have the part instead of a fine Irish actress. To conclude, it is a” read more
