A few years back when I was picky with film selections of which to watch and which not to watch, I had heard of Titanic films called Titanic but I hadn't heard of this one until I decided to do some research on the films based on the sinking of the ship. I am a huge fan of the American epic romantic-drama by James Cameron and after realising that this isn't only based on history regarding the sink... read more

This meticulous re-creation of the sinking of the Titanic was adapted by Eric Ambler from the best-selling book by Walter Lord, and it preceded the blockbuster Titanic by almost 40 years. The film covers the life and death of the huge vessel from its launching celebration to that fateful night of April 14, 1912, when the "unsinkable" ship struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Of the 2224 passen... read more

The film covers the life and death of the huge vessel from its launching celebration to that fateful night of April 14, 1912, when the "unsinkable" ship struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Of the 2224 passengers on board, 1513 were drowned as a result of the bad planning of lifeboats and escape routes. Kenneth More heads a huge and stellar cast, with 200 speaking parts, as second officer Herbert Lightoller, from whose point-of-view the story unfolds. Also in the cast are Laurence Naismith as the ill-fated Captain Smith; Michael Goodliffe as conscience-stricken ship's designer Thomas Andrews; Tucker M” read more

"Watched on: 8/19 Better than the James Cameron movie. I thought it was very interesting that the ship didn't split in two pieces whilst sinking, I guess that information wasn't figured out until later. Something really weird happened while I was watching this, but when the woman with the lucky pig survived I felt extremely relieved for some reason. "

Petri's Movie Diary - 2012 Edition (629 movies items)

"14.4.2012 Elokuva ei takerru yksittäisiin kohtaloihin Titanicilla, vaan seurailee melko tasapuolisesti tapahtumia kaikilla kansilla. Silti elokuva ei suinkaan ole dokumenttimaisuudessaan puuduttavaa katsottavaa, vaan joutuisasti etenevä ja jopa viihdyttävä kokonaisuus. Tekninen toteutus on kestänyt aikaa hyvin. "

"14.4. Ei ehkä ihan tuntunut Titanicin uppoamiselta tämä, vaikka dokumentaariseen ilmaisuun pyrittiinkin selvästi. Ehken siksi innostunut elokuvan sisällöstä erityisemmin, vaikken todellisia ansioita lähde kiistämään. Aidosti inhimillisiltä tuntuvat hetket piristävät kuitenkin kokonaisuutta, eikä parituntisen keston aikana ehdi tulla pitkästymisiä."

I am a huge fan of the American epic romantic-drama by James Cameron and after realising that this isn't only based on history regarding the sinking of the ship, but it goes into a deeper story than that and the main characters involved were real-life people (both survivors and ones who perished in the disaster) and that made the film even more interesting.

What I really liked with how well this film was handled was that it had almost precise historical facts about what really happened, who was on the ship etc which is something” read more

Films About The Sinking of the RMS Titanic (9 movies items)

" Country: UK Directed by: Roy Ward Baker Starring: Kenneth More, Honor Blackman, David McCallum, Alec McCowan. "Everybody up, get dressed, get your lifebelts on, at once." BACKGROUND: The enormous popularity of Walter Lord's book A Night to Remember and its television dramatisation convinced Irish film producer William MacQuitty that the story deserved a lavish big screen treatment. The result is considered by many to be the best film about the Titanic's sinking ever to be released. And the fil"

Thomas Andrews: "She can't float."

An adaptation of the excellent best-selling novel of the same name by Walter Lord, the docudrama A Night to Remember is to date the most focused and accurate cinematic portrayal of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The film's proceedings begin with the launching of the 'unsinkable' ocean liner, which is about to embark on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean from Southhampton to New York City. Unfortunately, the night of April the 14th and 15th was a night in which man's overconfidence in their technological creations was shaken to its core. On this night, the legendary ocean liner struck an iceberg, and the muc” read more
