"It's just an ordinary pen. Looks like a pen, writes like a pen, and listens like a pen."

This was a very bittersweet experience. While i really enjoyed the movie, it was also depressing to think that this is one of the last movies for one of my all time favorite actors, Philip Seymour Hoffman. He absolutely nailed this part just like he always did. He has a spot on German accent th... read more

Dry, dull, boring. Does not make me care for anything anyone did in the film. The romance angle thrown in was pointless. Just a snore fest.

This was a great way to send Seymour Hoffman off, it was great to see his career end of a really good high, it's devastating to have lost a golden talent like him, but we can all look back on this being a real end to his life and brilliant acting career. Some of the film bored me but then it's meant to be serious so maybe it was best that way. A good movie, for sure.

A good movie

“Ever since I saw 'Control', I got intrigued by Anton Corbijn's work so I was really eager to check this 3rd directing effort. Even though it was another spy feature like 'The American' was, it was something much more ambitious, easily his most ambitious movie so far but I'm afraid it only partially succeeded. Like most John Le Carré's spy thrillers, I really enjoyed the realistic approach and the bleak mood, however, I thought it was sometimes seriously murky, even more than in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'. Above all, I had a hard time to understand the motivations of most of the characters. For example, why did Issa Karpov come to Hamburg? Apparently, to get his inheritance through a rather cumbersome process but, when he finally manages to get his hands on it, he says he doesn't want it” read more
