My Movie Diary 2017 (91 movies items)

" 20 January. A heart-wrenching story of a boy who summons a make-believe monster to help him cope with the impending death of his mother. While it looks like a children's fantasy and includes animated segments, the subject matters are serious that younger audience may find it very gloomy (i.e. a dying mother, of a broken family, bullied and friendless) will definitely touch several nerves. Performances are top notch by the way."

The Good & The Bad - Movies Watched In 2017 (101 movies items)

"This movie focuses on a young boy, Conor, and his struggles to cope with his feelings in the face of his mother's terminal illness. Despite being on the surface to be a movie for children, this is emphatically not a kids movie. It is, in fact, a rather dark tale of emotional distress in the face of imminent death and the fantastic and frightening ways in which a young person responds to an appalling situation they can do nothing to avoid. Be prepared for some tears as this is an heartbreaking po"

" Vista: 25/01/2017 Vista por primera vez Opinión: Una película dramática bien ejecutada, la película se las arregla bien a la hora de meter sus elementos fantásticos y también cuando se trata de meter situaciones mas oscuras o deprimentes, con un protagonista no tridimensional, pero que si tiene exploración y conflictos buenos, igual con otros como la abuela, y la trama, pese a ser cliché y en ocasiones incluso se pasa con esto, se las arregla para ser bastante emocional sin llegar a lo"

"The "monster" certainly looked good and being voiced by Liam Neeson was a perfect choice to voice him but I simply could not get behind the kid or his situation. Blatant attempt at tear jerking that for the most part did not work for me because I believe of the child character being so unlikable. The film not being what I was expecting it to be didn't help either. Fortunately there was enough meat on the bone and enough in the performances in the adult actors to carry it so that it wasn't ev"
