"19.01. DVD, 1st viewing DIRECTED BY Sergio Leone The Sergio Leone film that no one ever talks about, along with The Colossus of Rhodes. Set in Mexico, the epic film follows two revolutionists, an Irish explosion expert and a Mexican bandit. It's not bad: it has got the magical Leone touch with wide-angle shots and some original use of optical zoom, a couple of cool set pieces (the wagon hijacking scene in the beginning, for example), an Ennio Morricone score and an overall bad-ass atmosphere. "7.10.

"1.5. Watched the 2003 MGM -version, not those weak short cuts from the 70's. Overall this is a phenomental movie. The subplot with Coburn bein' a jealous killer back in the Ireland-days is very cool and the political message is very strong. Personal classic. "

"FAVORITE MOVIE FROM YOUR FAVORITE DIRECTOR AND FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME An amazing movie. The last frame is one of the saddest I've ever seen - the one where Juan looks at the camera with question marks in his eyes, asking you: "What now" "

"Äijäilyä, massiivisia räjähdyksiä, kasvokieltä, viinaa, huumoria, ruutia, lopulta hieman herkistelyäkin. Vain Leone osaa tehdä tämän sortin westerniä ja vain Morricone säveltää näin upeaa musiikkia, jota ilman A Fistful of Dynamitekin olisi kaukana nykyisestä loistostaan."

A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE

“A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE / DUCK, YOU SUCKER (Giù la testa), Columbia, 1971.

Dir. Sergio Leone. Perf. Rod Steiger, James Coburn, Romolo Valli.

Review by Dominic

“The Revolution,” according to a curiously candid white-on-black insert, “is not a social dinner, it is not a literary event, a drawing or an embroidery...” Chairman Mao’s quote is punctuated by A Fistful of Dynamite’s unglamorous first images: a close-up of tree trunk ant-traffic being overwhelmed by a powerstream of piss. It is an ironically bodily metaphor to kick off a big-hearted picture. Make no mistake: Fistful is an oaf, parading its hangdog humor with black-toothed grin. But how remarkable it then seems when this grotty lout, to the serenading strains of Morricone’s score, actually ” read more

"Home - New Certainly not the greatest of Leone's films, I'd place it between For A Few Dollars More and a Fistful in my personal canon, but there's something about the charm and humour in the movie that makes it endlessly watchable. Coburn and Steiger, accents aside, are a great cinematic pairing and Leone and Morricone seem to understand the offbeat nature their very presence brings. This is a film with tongue stuck firmly in cheek, but there's elements of darkness and tonal disparity which ma"
