The most pretentious film ever made...

2001: A Space Odyssey is incredible mess of movie, the writers Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke obviously felt that a lot of random uninteresting long scenes make a whole film. It has a plot which doesn't go anywhere: In the opening scene monkeys learn the use of the bone as a weapon, it then suddenly cuts to a man on a spaceship who we follow for about an hour and then disappears totally from... read more

"Good morning, Dave."

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is a truly groundbreaking, unforgettable, incredible science fiction experience unlike any other film you are ever likely to see. Kubrick is a true visionary, and the entire film is a visual feast that will be devoured by the eyes of science fiction fans.

Many filmgoers will look upon 2001 as a load of tri... read more

Disappointing (43 movies items)

" It doesn't make any sense. I know people say they find meaning in it, but to me this is like Evangelion's ending, it makes no sense and is supposedly philosophical/clever/ambiguous. Bullshit, it's just pretentious."

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (2017) (549 movies items)

" Notes: It is probably the most highly regarded movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and you might argue that this movie is the mother of all the Science-Fiction movies that came afterwards. Indeed, even if you think it's slow and boring, you can't deny it has visually inspired all the S-F movies that came afterwards. Here, Kubrick made a visually spellbinding feature and went metaphysical and it completely worked. I mean, the last 15 minutes are probably the most exhilarating piece of cinema I ha"

Movie Reviews (451-500) (50 movies items)

" Holds the mantle as one of the most realistic science fiction movies out there and the one for the "thinking" man. I like how the story slowly reveals itself in the beginning through news and minimal of dialogue. HAL is one of the most memorable movie psychos on film. Kubrick's exceptional use of music began for real with this film as he combines everything from classical music to static noise to make a fantastic atmosphere. The ending is still questionable and open for suggestions for many, bu"

My Favorite Films (16 movies items)

"2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Director: Stanley Kubrick Writers: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke Stars: Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, Douglas Rain I've seen this movie maybe 5 times over - which is a lot for this film - and I love it even more. It's not the confusing narrative or mystery of it all, but I think it's the sheer awkwardness of it. While watching it, you feel like something's off, and it's a very eerie film. I love Kubrick's work for that."
