This is the Zodiac Speaking
Dirty Harry is loosely based on the real events surrounding the Zodiac case.
- The role of Harry Calahan is inspired by real-life police officer David Toschi who was in charge of the investigations for many years (Toschi had previously been model for the role of Bullitt in the same-named movie with Steve McQueen from 1968) - The role of Scorpio is inspired by the Zodiac killer who wrote several letters to San Francisco's newspapers confessing his crimes and announcing new murders (he also threatened to extinguish a school bus) - The creators of this movie decided to use a closure where the Killer is identified and killed by Harry Calahan. In reality the case has never been solved. schwarzerabt's rating:
The first movie about the events. The quality of the movie doens't seem to be too great, though (IMDb-Rating 4.2). So probably the Zodiac Killer wasn't satisfied with it.
This movie marks the start of a new wave of Zodiac movies, beginning in 2005. It is also one of the weakest movies dealing with the subject.
The second zodiac movie of 2005. It is based on police reports and media accounts.
Philip Baker Hall acts in it, who is also a member of the cast of David Fincher's "Zodiac" of 2007. This movie by David Fincher is one of the best movies about the murders. It pays the highest attention to details and tries to be really accurate. In the process of making the movie the filmmakers even found out some connections that had not been thought of before.
The movie is based on the two books of San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist Robert Graysmith, who developed a private obsession of solving the case but also on interviews with witnesses, police reports and media articles. The movie suggests that Arthur Lee Allen is the Zodiac killer, but it does not define that completely. In an interview Fincher stated that the movie only follows Graysmith's logic but he may have other opinions. If the zodiac was indeed Arthur Lee Allen he would have never seen a good movie about himself (Allen died in 1992). schwarzerabt's rating:
The most recent release is a direct to video movie from Ulli Lommel, who already directed "Zodiac Killer" in 2005.
According to the IMDb-rating Lommel even managed to underdo his first try. |
