Wu-Tang...The Solo Joints
Release Date: May 20, 2003
Damn, if I didn't know better, this is not the same Deck that I know. The point man on some of Wu-Tang's finest cuts actually released this garbage. I mean, really, is he is even trying. I sounds like somebody trying to emulate Juvenile, just with a little New York sprinkled on top. Fucking horrible album! Wu Bangers: "City High", "Vendetta" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: November 17, 1998
How much of a disappointment was this album? And before I continue, not it isn't because of all of the goddamn skits (that definitely didn't help though) it is because it just lost the Wu familiarity. Now do not get me mistaken there are a few good tracks on this album, but overall it fails. There was no need to have Janet Jackson, Donald Trump, "the check writer", Chris Rock, etc. on a mutha fuckin' Wu-Tang album! Wu Bangers: "Shaolin What", "Party Crasher" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: August 28, 2001
About two weeks ago I drove around and re-listened to this album trying to figure out why I disliked it so much in 2001. Then it hit me...the featured artists do not come with their best material in hand. Listen to Jamie Sommers' verses and tell me that it doesn't somewhat diminish the quality of the song. Wu Bangers: "La Rumba", "Sickness", "Must Be Bobby" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: March 24, 1998
The honorary 10th member of Wu-Tang. Personally, I like this album. Tracks like "Run" and "Milk this Cow" just fit Cappa's unorthodox style of rhyming like a glove. Normally I would recommend Cappadonna to only the hardcore of Wu fans, but this album doesn't stray too far from the formula. Wu Bangers: "Milk this Cow", "Supa Ninja", "Run" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: November 15, 1994
Believe it or not this is probably one of my least liked Wu solo joints. I am not saying that Tical is an utter failure...it's just not that great. Lyrical it is on point, song structures are good and the presentation is almost unmatched. I love the Gothic setting of this album. So still you may ask...why? Sadly I cannot answer that. I just do not like this album as much as I should. Wu Bangers: "Meth vs. Chef", "All I Need", "Mr. Sandman" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: June 29, 1999
The Genius does it again. Wu Bangers: "Publicity", "Breaker, Breaker", "String play" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: August 19, 2008
"O% Finance" is one of the most creative tracks that I have heard in awhile. Not may an MC can box with the god MC. GZA is older and still on point with the wordplay as ever. While this album may not be the caliber of Liquid Swords, GZA can still decapitate an MC with the speed of a ninja. Wu Bangers: "O% Finance", "Paper Plates", "Pencil" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: December 10, 2002
This is the opening verse of the album: "I was born with the mic in my hand..." Wu Banger: "Fame", "Luminal", "Silent" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: November 20, 2001
Ghostface is truly is one of the most gifted MC's to ever touch the microphone. All hail this is a testament to his lyrical wizardry. Just one quick question, what is the point of Bulletproof Wallet's album cover? ![]() Is Ghost going to serve me a pancake? Wu Bangers: "Flowers", "The Hilton", "Walking through the Darkness" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: March 28, 1995
One of the most creative Wu albums! I love ODB. Wu Bangers: "Brooklyn Zoo", "The Stomp", "Shimmy Shummy Ya" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: September 8, 2009
This album was in hiatus it seemed like forever. After singing with Aftermath Entertainment and presumably letting Dr.Dre produce the follow up to a classic, Wu fans (such as myself) screamed foul. Needless to say Reakwon was going to have his hands full trying to silence the naysayers (that OB4CL2 would never see the light of day and topping the crime classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx). As always the strength of the W prevailed, achievement unlocked! Wu Bangers: "Surgical Gloves", "About Me", Kiss the Ring" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: October 29, 1996
Ghost released this classic soulful album to critical acclaim. Any true Wu fans should have picked up this album. Wu Bangers: "Daytona 500", "Winter Warz", "Assassination Day" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: August 1, 1995
The debut album from "The Chief". What amazing production by the RZA. It just makes this album feel like it was telling you a classic gritty crime saga. With audio clips taken from John Woo movies like The Killer just sets the tone of the album. Essential listening for any hip hop junkie out there. Wu Bangers: "Incarcerated Scarfaces", "Wu Gambinos", "Verbal Intercourse" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: February 8, 2000
Ghostface hands down, releases some of the most consistent Wu solo joints of any clan member. This is no exception. Probably the second best Ghostface Killah album to date. Wu Bangers: "Wu Banga 101", "One", "Apollo Kids" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: November 7, 1995
Do I really have to comment on this classic? MC's are still studying this album trying to decode the hidden messages hidden from within. Wu Bangers: "Labels", "Hell's Wind Staff / Killah Hills 10304", "Duel of the Iron Mic" Mr. Lays's rating:
Release Date: November 28, 1998
I know that some Wu fans may look at my #1 pick and say, "Bobby Digital really?" Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I love this album because RZA seems almost fearless on this body of work. It's experimental not just for the sake of being experimental, but for further progressing and showing his diversity. RZA really got into this alter ego. I almost believed that I was listening to another artist...alright I am kidding. It doesn't feel forced and that "Look and at my trying new things" attitude. *cough* Kayne West *cough* Wu Bangers: "Love Jones", "Holocaust", "N.Y.C. Everything" Mr. Lays's rating:

I wasn't a fan of Bulletproof Wallets though. Ghostface was really, really trying to push his crossover appeal on that record. More than half of it sounded like various remixes of Cherchez La Ghost. I just couldn't vibe with the overall contemporary feel to it. The beats and R&B hooks did nothing for me.
I see you didn't list Raekwon's Immobilarity. That's one solo album in particular I absolutely love that everyone else seems to hate. Very underrated. I'm also of the opinion that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is extremely overrated. I tried my damndest to get into that record. I just couldn't. It reminded me of one of those movies that you know is well-made and you can admire the talent that went into making it but just isn't very entertaining.
And RZA's a genius behind the boards. But, really, why is it that the man just cannot ride a beat? He has no rhythm. At all. I liked Bobby Digital in Stereo but avoided Digital Bullet for the fact that everyone I knew pretty much told me it sucked. Digi Snacks was decent, I suppose.
And LOL @ that Bulletproof Wallets cover. Man, my friends and me used to go off on that cover. We tried to decipher it numerous times. We came to the conclusion that it is, bar none, the most homoerotic album cover in hip-hop history. Ghost has this half-open robe on, Rae has this look in his eyes like he wants to eat Ghostface's soul, and it would appear that Ghost is cooking him/them breakfast. That's just too much lol.
