Here are some album covers that I think could be better. Worst ever? Maybe a bit harsh, but they're all lacklustre in some way or other.

Here's is the opposite list:

Oh yeah. I hated the Volta art! I had to peel a stupid bloody sticker off to get into the damn thing. Such as shame because I really look forward to Bjork's album art.

I'd have to stick 'Music for a Jilted Generation' on this list aswell.

It's a shame, because there's loads of colourful pictures of her promoting the volta album that would've made much better album pictures! That sticker was, indeed, a joke, it felt as empty as opening a present purchased and wrapped to yourself on Christmas day.

Agree, but Stadium Arcadium.

the Volta album artwork was great in my opinion, and the Court of the Crimson King is one of the best album covers of all time! Although I will agree that most of these covers are pretty lame.

MGMT - Congratulations too
Posted: 3 years ago at Nov 20 7:57
I agree and for some of them a terrible cover reflects a terrible album
(like Stadium Arcadium - R.H.C.P.)
The only cover i would save is The Streets..for me reflects good the English suburbia Mike Skinner sings about..

There is worst if you look for.

Every Black Eyed Peas album except for The Beginning has a bad album cover.

You're not wrong there my friend.

I agree with all of your choices except I kinda like the King Crimsom cover.

Dr. Dre looks like the front of a pack of Zig Zag rolling papers.

Iggy Pop should have a bag over his head.

The Demon baby on the Black Sabbath cover is very cheesy.

The Devo cover looks very gay (no Offence intended).

The rest are just plain bad.

I disagree on King Crimson and The Streets. Otherwise...Spot on! These covers are atrocious but I have seen worse. Perhaps I'll compile my own list. There are numerous examples out there of covers that should certainly be filed under "What were they thinking?"

I don't really think the Gaga one should count. Firstly, it's Lady Gaga. Are you surprised? That's normal for her. Secondly, it sort of goes with the album, the overall theme and such; if you listen to the songs (Heavy Metal Lover, Electric Chapel, Bad Kids, etc.) then consider that the album promotes being who you are no matter what. Also, the album came out right around the time that the song and video for "Judas" came out, which had a Disciple/Biker Gang theme. So it's not really bad album art; it's just... Gaga. Like it has its own genre. xD

i disagree with about 5-6 of these. the ariel's pink's cover art may be disconcerting but it stands alone as a nicely render picture and a recognizable cover. While I am the last person to claim to be a Coldplay fan, the X&Y album cover is simple, graphicy, and digital, reminiscent of trends in the 90s/early 200s. Dr. Dre does look a little confused in the Chronic but the simple dominant design begs it to be remembered. the spiritualized album is not a bad album cover, its similar in the style of how most of their covers are. its very simple and geometric and repetitive. the crimson kings album is so bold, its like a classic! and last but not least the mgmt Congratulations album and cover art were panned!! But I dont know why! Believe me, in 30-40 years it will be a classic.

I'll say this for the Ariel Pink cover - it's definitely different - and disturbingly well-drawn. I completely agree with you on the rest though; they seem to range from bad ideas to badly executed ones. :)

Ariel Pink cover - what on earth were they thinking? I suppose its to be controversial

Much as I love him as a musician, people should look at Todd Rundgren album covers (apart from A Wizard A True Star which is appropriately surreal) to understand poor promotion/artwork
