Ok, it's already weird, but it's a verse of "Eloisa to Abelard" by Alexander Pope. I guess the Italian translation of this poetry was too "cultural", so they chose a simple (and horrible) title explaining the plot:
This is one of the worst title translations. It gives the wrong idea of two people meeting by chance and fall in love, while the most important thing in this story is time circularity.
I think they liked the title above so much to copy it for a new movie. In fact, they only changed the article from indefinite to definite. This is pathetic.
Title translations may be necessary in some cases, but sometimes I wonder what the hell went on translator's mind making such horrible and ridiculos choices.
These are Italian titles. Note: some translations in English are literal, so they could make no much sense.

Che stupidaggini... Alcuni film che in originale sembrano interessanti, col titolo tradotto (malamente!) in italiano sembrano solo delle commediole stupide... e finisce che uno se li perde...
Altra traduzione veramente incomprensibile è il film di Neil Jordan del 1992 "The Crying Game" (titolo del brano della colonna sonora), in italiano "La moglie del soldato" (The soldier's wife).
Per non parlare di "Georgia Rule", film del 2007 di Garry Marshall, in italiano "Donne, regole... e tanti guai!".
Io volevo segnalare il caso del film "Scrooged", versione moderna de "Il Canto di Natale" di Charles Dickens, interpretato da Bill Murray, reduce dal successo di "Ghostbusters". Il titolo italiano del film è stato "S.O.S. Fantasmi" che altro non è che la traduzione di "S.O.S. Fantômes" ovvero il titolo francese di "Ghostbusters"!

And the worst is when you just remember the title in your language, so when you try to translate it no one understands what movie you are talking about.

great job, really ridiculous some title that puts the distributors, for me the original always is the best, very funny your comment about Honki Tonk. must be really out of our time. 40´s . but some movies of those years really crudely reflect, surprisingly to me, the current reality like Baby Face.
pretty good...here in Slovakia they do it as well, not everytime, but sometimes the title really is something completely different and in fact you do not even have the chance to know what the smeg the movie is you are talking about...? ;-)
f.e. The 13th warrior - Vikingovia (Northmen)...it´s ok, but still, the meaning of the 13th...
or Confidence - Chladnokrvne (Coldblooded)... etc. :-D

Seriously, distributors should understand that ridiculous or stupid titles may compromise a movie gross, and when literal translation is not possible, original title is always the best choice. At least, that's what I think.
In Italy (and in many other countries) foreign titles are translated or changed. And sometimes those choices are really weird. So I listed them and translated in English only to make people understand.

unfortunately they don't translate the movies in my country so they keep them in English , maybe that because we dont have cinema at all , its banned .

Ho sempre pensato che qui in Quebec, i film avevano dei titoli stupidi... Vai a vedere 'sta lista, un po' e vedrai la differenza tra i titoli francesi e quelli del Quebec. Sono pazzi!!!
Alcuni fanno senso sai, pero' altri come "The Edge" tradotto in Francia come "A couteaux tirés" ("on pulled knives", e' un'espressione che vuol dire "to be on bad terms", non conosco la traduzione italiana), e in Quebec, "Au bord du desastre" ("al ciglio del disastro")
Aira, se vai a vedere i film di Truffaut ce ne sono alcuni fenomenali, tipo "Domicile conjugal" e "Une belle fille comme moi": guarda cosa diventano. Anche alcuni di Woody Allen subiscono fini analoghe. Comunque ottimo lavoro!
"Un cuento chino" ("Un racconto cinese") distribuito in italia come "Cosa Piove dal Cielo"

Ciao! Volevo segnalarti il film "Crossroads" del 1986 con Ralph Macchio. Il titolo si riferisce all'omonimo pezzo del bluesman Robert Johnson, secondo la leggenda lungo una strada desolata ad un incrocio il diavolo gli insegnò l'arte del blues,però con la conseguenza di morire giovane. Il titolo italiano? "Mississipi Adventure"!!!
