525 6.4 6.61. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)
Previews made it out to be a romantic comedy, but it's a tragedy instead. It's still incredibly cliche, complete with many "words of wisdom" for the woman going through a mid-life crisis.
816 5.2 5.32. Nine Months (1995)
Oh please just make it stop...
2766 6.5 7.23. Scream (1996)
For a horror movie, it was actually... pretty good? However, it wasn't good enough to demand numerous sequels.
3373 6.9 7.74. Saw (2004)
I certainly wasn't expecting that. It's a horror-thriller with somewhat of an actual plot and an introspective view of the power of life.
1209 7.8 85. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Very little plot, very little character development, but plenty of zombies. When you get right down to it, that's all that matters. The shopping mall setting was pure genius.
2134 7.1 7.56. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Haha, awesome! Plenty of suspense and thrills are in this well-made movie. The dream sequences still hold up today in terms of special effects.
487 7.2 7.27. Re-Animator (1985)
Yeah yeah, we've seen it all before in any number of other gory 80s movies. Great performances, though.
1904 5.4 5.88. The Grudge (2004)
This movie actually isn't half bad. It provides some genuine thrills, even if the story and scary moments have been recycled from numerous previous movies. It still falls into the old trap of having too many jump scares.
3619 6.4 7.19. The Ring (2002)
Wow, this movie was way better than I thought it was going to be. It gradually builds suspense, and has very few cheap scares. The atmosphere of the whole film is fantastic. Legitimately disturbing.
1911 7.8 810. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
It was... pretty good? I guess I mean that I can understand the praise it gets in terms of suspense and acting, but it still bored me to tears.
4750 6.1 6.511. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Saw this in theaters in 3D. Can't believe it's been so long since I've seen this one. I'd forgotten how cheesy it is!
2097 8.3 8.512. Vertigo (1958)
Still a boring movie the second time around. I appreciate Hitchcock as a director, but I am not excited by any of the scripts/plots in his movies, except perhaps in Psycho.
3926 8 8.313. Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
BRILLIANT acting, cinematography, direction, and script. I loved it.
486 7.6 7.414. Don't Look Now (1973)
What a huge disappointment. A lot of people say this is one of the best horror movies ever made. Literally nothing exciting happens for the whole movie except maybe in the last 5 minutes, and those minutes aren't worth it to watch the whole movie.
315 4.9 4.815. Darkness Falls (2003)
This is a typical "leave your brain at the door" horror flick. Thin plot, occasional jump scares, and no character development - pretty average if you ask me.
1144 7.1 7.516. The Orphanage (2007)
This was actually pretty decent. A lot of things about this movie remind me of "The Others," and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
1012 7.2 7.517. An American Werewolf in London (1981)
The special effects in this movie are still great today. It had a few standout scenes, but was average in every other respect.
277 7.8 7.918. The Chaser (2008)
A very interesting thriller from Korea. From the plot to the unlikeable main character, everything is unexpected.
16 7.3 7.119. No Mercy (2010)
Another gory thriller from Korea, and this one's title is very appropriate. What a twisted ending.
1632 7.1 7.220. The Hunger Games (2012)
I was pleased with this adaptation of the book of the same name, even if the shaky cam effect was insanely over-used. People might be disappointed by the lack of explanations in this movie, but at least there will be other movies to clear the confusion.
200 6.7 6.821. The Debt (2010)
Decent thriller that tries to do something different and mostly succeeds. The love triangle was ridiculous and just did not work.
2148 7.9 8.322. The Avengers (2012)
This actually exceeded my expectations. However, no amount of witty one-liners from Joss Whedon can cover the fact that it's a "summer flick" filled with 'splosions.
1151 6.3 6.423. Friday the 13th (1980)
Eh, it was alright. Maybe a little better than average for a horror movie. It certainly doesn't deserve fifty billion sequels.
421 6.9 724. Shutter (2004)
This was an awesome ghost movie!! In general, I dislike jump scares, but this movie has a lot of great ones. It has a lot of tension from the second scene and it never lets down until the end.
990 5.6 5.925. Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Terrible acting and a threadbare plot bring down this average and cliche creature feature.
2664 6.6 6.626. Hannibal (2001)
This movie puts an all-star cast of actors to shame. I can just imagine the screenwriter going, "Ohh look, this movie features a cannibal, let's show him eating people!"
546 6.6 6.627. Creepshow (1982)
Creepshow is a horror/comedy that's neither scary nor funny. It has a lot of narm charm, though.
1936 7.3 7.628. The Crow (1994)
Dead guy gets revenge on the people who killed him and his girlfriend. Yaaaaawn. It has a pretty good atmosphere, but this movie has not aged well and the acting is laughable.
520 6.7 6.829. The Fog (1980)
This movie is rather so-so. It's an interesting ghost movie with a fantastic final scene.
129 7.7 7.130. Noroi: The Curse (2005)
Not bad for a "found footage" film. It was actually somewhat believable. Still not scary, though.
701 7.2 7.231. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
The scariest movie (for me) in recent memory. Great atmosphere and acting, even though they did overuse the "heavy breathing" in some parts.
607 5.9 6.432. The Mothman Prophecies (2002)
I'm not sure what to think of this one. It was well done for a supernatural thriller, but fell flat in a lot of places. Not seeing the Mothman actually made it more suspenseful.
535 5.6 5.933. Battleship (2012)
I went in expecting a movie with no plot, no meaningful dialogue, and lots of explosions. This movie definitely met my expectations.
62 6.9 6.334. Love Object (2003)
This movie has so much going for it, but the fact that one of the leads is a bad actor and it has a soundtrack that sounds very out-of-place bring it down. Legitimately disturbing.
2635 6.7 6.935. Underworld (2003)
Surprisingly good action flick with a decent plot. Loved it!
1755 6.5 6.736. Underworld: Evolution (2006)
Not as good as the first Underworld film, but still pretty awesome.
34 6.2 5.237. Evil Ed (1995)
It's a straight-up splatterfest comedy. Just grab your popcorn, sit back, and take in the crazy antics.
593 6.9 7.138. They Live (1988)
Hilarious sci-fi B-movie with interesting social commentary, even if it is a little over-the-top about the commentary part.
922 6.4 6.439. Pet Sematary (1989)
How do I rate this? I could see this movie being scary for children, but watching it as an adult, I think it's more cheesy than anything.
2255 6.5 7.140. The Karate Kid (1984)
A decent movie. I think a lot of people still love this one for the nostalgia factor. The ending is rather abrupt, too.
2202 6.6 6.741. A Knight's Tale (2001)
This movie just tried WAY too hard to be "cool" and "modern" with the soundtrack. Although cliche, it did entertain me for a couple of hours.
78 5.8 5.942. The Double (2011)
Pretty average thriller. What else is there to say?
982 7.7 7.643. Funny Games (1997)
A lot of people really, really love this movie. It was just as psychologically twisted as people said it was, but not because you witness a lot of gore (you don't). I found myself thinking a lot about the effects of violence in movies and the media after this one, and I suppose it deserves a good rating just for that.
1373 6.9 7.344. Rango (2011)
This movie was...okay. I say it's slightly better than average for the brilliant animation, but the plot and characters were just plain dull.
5529 7.1 7.345. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Classic! I actually love the books AND the movies (and I read the first books years before they even made the first movie).
5253 6.9 7.246. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
A valiant effort to tell the Chamber of Secrets story.
2259 8 8.647. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
A brilliant finale to a brilliant trilogy. More slow-paced and more drama-packed than the previous two installments, this one left a lasting impression on me.
1380 6.9 7.248. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Not bad! A different, yet no less exciting, take on the Spider-Man origins story.
565 7.3 7.749. Boyz N the Hood (1991)
This is the first movie I ever watched that dealt with the issues of growing up in a ghetto neighborhood, and the movie was actually way better than I expected.
631 7.6 7.850. Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
As a huuuuuge video game nerd, it's no surprise that I loved this movie. Interesting story and visuals, although the Vanellope character got on my nerves a little bit.
