JANUARY
Very weird and very cute (not in a sugary way). Who makes manga with rocks? I was amused. nono's rating:
This is an okay movie, definitely one for people who like British comedy-dramas. There were some genuinely funny moments with Hugh Grant's cynical, immature character and Nicholas Hoult's young Marcus.
nono's rating:
Rewatched (why??). It was better than I expected (but I really didn't have high expectations) and it made me laugh a lot which probably wasn't what they were aiming for, haha.
nono's rating:
You might like this if you A) are a girl and B) haven't read the book it's based on. (I haven't read it but my friend says the movie is very different from the book and not quite as good, and I completely trust her judgement.) The story itself is heartbreaking and sweet at the same time and even though some parts of the film (especially Swank's acting) felt a bit awkward, there was a lot of love there. Gerard Butler made Gerry utterly lovable.
nono's rating:
I agree with what nataliegoes said in her review: Good, and Yet Unsatisfying. I do think it's meant to be that way and it would ruin the whole feel of the movie if we got more insight on the girls' lives. Still, I can't love this movie the way a lot of people do because of that. (I haven't read the book.)
nono's rating:
I liked this a lot. Crudup played his multi-layered, cross-dressing character beautifully and had good chemistry with Danes who, I think, also did a marvelous job. I haven't really liked her before but the stage scenes at the end were just so electric and powerful that I think I'm starting to warm up to her.
This movie also had some pretty good costuming. I'm studying design, (probably) specifically theatrical costume design starting next year, so I'm always interested in that sort of things. nono's rating:
Rewatched. For me, this movie is good to watch on a lazy morning because it's quite short and not too heavy.
nono's rating:
I kind of have a fascination for movies about strange things going on with the Catholic church but this wasn't a very good one. I was bored, rather than scared or thrilled.
nono's rating:
Rewatched. This movie is one of those that are very good when you first watch them but after that get kind of boring because you know what happens in the end.
nono's rating:
I thought this movie was moving and dark in a good way.
nono's rating:
Rewatched. I love how I completely couldn't predict the ending when I first watched this, haha. It was the best the first time around.
nono's rating:
So good! I'm glad I finally watched this. I was literally at the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie.
nono's rating:
Kind of blah. There were plenty of moments where I jumped because something suddenly happened, like bats flying around and stuff.
nono's rating:
Geoffrey Rush is made of awesome.

FEBRUARY
This movie really made me think it would be scary if dragons existed. Will Puff, the Magic Dragon ever be the same again? Also, Denton Van Zan = EWWW. But yay for Bale and Butler. nono's rating:
I loved the bit where Bale and Beckinsale were fighting and crying. That's all.
nono's rating:
Basically a waste of time. (Except that Stuart Townsend looked like a dream as Dorian Gray.)
nono's rating:
I haven't ever really watched a lot of Westerns but I thought this was very good. I especially liked the relationship between Bale and Crowe.
nono's rating:
Rewatched. I've seen this too many times, ahaha. It's not as funny as it used to be.
nono's rating:
You're more likely to like this movie if you're a girl, I think. Nelli kind of annoyed me, especially in the beginning, but I really felt for Sune.
nono's rating:
Watching this at the cinema with only me, my friend and a bunch of old men present was kind of funny to me.
It was good but not great. Maybe I've seen too many WWII movies. nono's rating:
Not my cup of tea but the two men in this movie are great nonetheless. Especially Bale, he's too freaking amazing in this kind of roles.
nono's rating:
Putting actual history aside, I thought this movie was quite entertaining. I especially liked that one scene with Anne and George, but Bana totally didn't convince me in this (well, maybe 10% of the time).
nono's rating:
A beautiful display of emotion and amazing visual images. Still, there was something missing.
nono's rating:
Rewatched. It's so funny, I love it! I had the Lumberjack Song stuck in my head for days after watching this, haha.
nono's rating:
I probably would've liked this movie a lot more if it wasn't animated. Still, it looked kind of good and seeing as I knew basically nothing about Beowulf beforehand, this was quite enlightening in some ways.
nono's rating:
I can't believe I hadn't watched this before! I saw the first one when I was about five and I'm still a bit traumatised by the velociraptors. XD
Anyway, this movie kind of annoyed me because there was a severe lack of logic in the behaviour of some of the people and even dinosaurs (imho). Maybe I should read the book. nono's rating:
I kind of had no idea what went on after Diana's death because I was quite young when it happened and I'm not British. This movie really gave me something to think about, another perspective. And Helen Mirren was amazing, naturally.
nono's rating:
I didn't know Harvey Milk existed before hearing about this movie and I kind of would like to know why. He was the kind of person you don't get taught in school about. I really admire him for what he did, what he started.
I think Josh Brolin was pretty much the perfect man to play Dan White. And Sean Penn as Harvey Milk was so, so sympathetic. nono's rating:
MARCH
Maybe not quite as funny as the TV show but still pretty good. I love time travel! nono's rating:
Ahaha, the 80s. This was actually better than I thought it would be, very entertaining/amusing.

Movies I watched in 2009, including rewatched ones, with short (sometimes nonsensical) comments ... because I'm bad at writing proper reviews. =D And English is not my first language so there might be some errors. I kind of got lazy with this list for a while (April~July) but I'll try to add everything I can remember later. Doesn't include the following TV films: - Surrealissimo: The Trial of Salvador Dali (2002) - Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007) - A Number (2008) - Capturing Mary (2007) WIP: Will be rewriting notes more thoroughly when I have time / feel like it~. 2008 STATS: 16 short films / 308 feature films & TV films 256 new / 68 rewatched 359 total viewings
