Waiting on my shelf
I had started this years ago and eventually had to put it down to read some mandatory shite instead. Then it just stood on the shelf...
I'll have to get back to it one of these days, from the beginning. I began reading it. Thompson makes it easy for me, I quickly got in the book and ate up some chapters. But, for reasons I won't bother explaining, I have to read some short stories now; I'll get back to it afterwards.

I "got away" from reading again, but when I find the time I'll be alternating between that and Neil Gaiman's. (which is what I was doing)
Neil Gaiman writes Fantasy. Yeah I like beat-reality like Bukowski and HST and then I like fiction/ fantasy like Gaiman.
He writes fantasy, horror and humour. Often all in one! I think he's great.
When I say fantasy I don't mean there's a specific World with monsters and sages and shit... It's more of WTFs in the real world.
He writes Comics too, he's famous for his Sandman series. He has children's books (like "Wolves in the Walls" for children and "Stardust" and others for older youth) and then more twisted stuff.
He's the writer behind the movies "Stardust", "Coraline", and "MirrorMask" (this one with Dave McKean).
Read what I wrote here on Smoke and Mirrors, Good Omens and Neverwhere. It's not any pretentious major literature, it's just good, really good.
Yeah, I usually read slowly.. not that I don't enjoy it, just like you said. And what's "funny" is that it feels like everytime that I'm getting into a book and reading it at peace, somebody comes to interrupt me!!
Actually I shoud be reading a novel now! It's been forever as the little I've been reading has been mostly short stories.
I was gonna pick up Hell's Angels again... Survivor will probably follow! Or maybe precede it, 'cause I might just be feeling more like reading an actual novel now.
