1. Boy A (2007)
This was a very good movie. it exceeded my expectations for sure. Andrew Garfield was great in this one. He was sympathetic, despite his mistake in the past.

2. Fanboys (2009)
I saw this movie recently and it has become one of my favorites. This movie is hilarious and even slightly heartwarming at times.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 1408  Average listal rating (823 ratings) 6.9  IMDB Rating 6.8
3. Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
One of the best movies of 2009. I loved the book as a child, so I went in thinking it was going to be some artsy mess, but it really exceeded my expectations.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 214  Average listal rating (108 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 6.5
4. December Boys (2007)
I watched this late at night, expecting to finally get some sleep after a long day. But I ended up watching it to the end. Surprisingly good, and Daniel Radcliffe was great.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 4192  Average listal rating (2998 ratings) 7.3  IMDB Rating 7.6
5. The Fifth Element (1997)
One of my old favorites. I always get angry when I hear that people haven't seen it. I'd recommend it to anyone. One of the things about it, though, is that you shouldn't just think of it as a mindless action flick.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 199  Average listal rating (128 ratings) 6.5  IMDB Rating 6.7
6. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)
I watched this movie on netflix, not sure of what to expect, but it was awesome. It's a perfect deconstruction of the slasher genre. Another I'd recommend to anyone.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 116  Average listal rating (68 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 5.8
7. Dance of the Dead (2008)
I watched this one on demand, and it was great. I still can't believe it didn't get much attention.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 874  Average listal rating (573 ratings) 5.8  IMDB Rating 6.5
8. Idiocracy (2006)
Great, hysterical, and entirely underrated. More people need to know how great this movie is.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 1175  Average listal rating (741 ratings) 6.9  IMDB Rating 7.3
9. Chasing Amy (1997)
This one is definitely not for everyone. but it is one of the better Kevin Smith movies.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 186  Average listal rating (106 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 6.6
10. Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
This movie is funny, adorable, and genuinely good, and it doesn't try too hard to be preachy. One if the best scenes in the movie involves Jessica and her mother, and that is all I will say, if you want to know what I mean, just watch this movie.

Note:
I also love it when "marinate" is used as a verb.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 285  Average listal rating (206 ratings) 6.1  IMDB Rating 6.5
11. Hot Rod (2007)
This movie was hilarious, and it did not get the attention it deserved. Two words "Cool beans".
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 2737  Average listal rating (1840 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 6.8
12. The Island (2005)
Once you look past the fact that it's a Michael Bay movie, it's actually not bad.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 284  Average listal rating (193 ratings) 7.3  IMDB Rating 7.2
13. Black Dynamite (2009)
This movie is hilarious. It is a perfect parody of blaxploitation films. There are boom mics visible, bad jump cuts, obvious stunt doubles, and it's shot to look like it was made in the early 70s. This movie is amazing, and it had me laughing the entire time.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 29  Average listal rating (19 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.3
14. C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America (2004)
This is a mockumentary about what it would be like if the south won the civil war. The interviews and commercials are very believable, and it is comedy gold. This is perfect political satire.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 1104  Average listal rating (768 ratings) 6.2  IMDB Rating 6.4
15. Be Kind Rewind (2008)
I watched this movie on HBO and absolutely loved it. It's really funny and charming, plus it has a great message.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 435  Average listal rating (257 ratings) 5.5  IMDB Rating 5.6
16. Teeth (2007)
I'm not gonna trick people into seeing this movie by not saying what it's about. So, here it is; this movie is about a girl discovering that her vagina has teeth. She pretty much comes to the realization in one of the worst ways imaginable, but I'll spare the details by saying that people should see this movie.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 516  Average listal rating (307 ratings) 4.6  IMDB Rating
17. Josie and the Pussycats (2001)
This is really sort of a guilty pleasure, but it's a great movie with a pretty good soundtrack, plus it's hilarious. Tara Reid is ridiculously funny, and the line about puppies just kills me every time because of her reaction. This is comedy gold.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 515  Average listal rating (344 ratings) 6.2  IMDB Rating 6.8
18. Ghost Town (2008)
Ricky Gervais is brilliant, but especially in this role. I realize that a lot of people hated this movie, but I'm not one of them. I think it was great and it deserves a second chance.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 89  Average listal rating (54 ratings) 6.9  IMDB Rating 7.1
19. Defending Your Life (1991)
This is a great movie. Meryl Streep gives a really good performance, and I loved the concept of limbo being part of a bureaucracy. The court scenes are pretty good, and it manages to be really funny compared to other movies about the afterlife.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 1914  Average listal rating (1235 ratings) 7.2  IMDB Rating 7.7
20. Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
This was a really great movie, and no one recognized that. It practically vanished off of the face of the planet after the DVD release. I love this movie, Will Ferrel is great in it, as is Emma Thompson. I love the story, and I love the characters. It's sad that this was overlooked.
Hobbit's rating:

People who added this item 466  Average listal rating (274 ratings) 5.7  IMDB Rating 6.2
21. Death to Smoochy (2002)
This is one of the only movies starring Edward Norton that I actually like. Plus, it has actors I love: Danny DeVito, Jon Stewart, and Catherine Keener especially. I thought this was great, original and funny, yet I hear it being bashed by critics, left and right.

4 of these I agree with (Where the Wild Things Are, Idiocracy, Chasing Amy & Fifth Element), the rest I haven't seen (Leslie Vernon's on my list though). Guess I should check some of these out.

Interesting list but I'm not a big fan of the fifth element (luc besson... = great visuals + average story)
