The Ultra Series was created by Four Father of Godzilla, Eiji Tsuburaya. The first entry in the series, Ultra Q, is about a team fighting giant monsters though they have nothing gigantic on their side. However, 1967's Ultraman, about the monster-combating Science Patrol - specifically one Shin Hayata who can turn himself into the giant alien humanoid hero, Ultraman - reinvented the series as one of the world's first giant superhero series. Though popularity has gone down recently in the U.S. as few Ultraman series have been released there, Ultraman is as popular - and many will say as high-quality - as ever in Japan.
