85 9 Genre: Action, Rated M (April 2008) Developed by Rockstar North; Published by Rockstar Part of Grand Theft Auto series. Gamespot 10.0 | Critics Avg 9.8 | Players Avg 9.3 "GTAIV is a game with a compelling and nonlinear storyline, a game with a great protagonist who you can't help but like, and a game that boasts a plethora of online multiplayer features in addition to its lengthy story mode. It's not without some flaws, but GTAIV is undoubtedly the best Grand Theft Auto yet." - Gamespot Review
154 8.5 Genre: Role-Playing Game, Rated T (March 2006) Developed by Bethesda; Published by 2K Games Part of The Elder Scrolls series. Gamespot 9.6 | Critics Avg 9.4 | Players Avg 9.5 "Even those who'd normally have no interest in a role-playing game should find it hard to resist getting swept up in this big, beautiful, meticulously crafted world. What's overwhelming about Oblivion is how good it is and how much there is to it. Literally almost everything that's ever been done well before in past role-playing games is in here--done at least as well, if not better." - Gamespot Review
252 8.7 Genre: Sci-Fi Shooter, Rated M (November 2006) Developed by Epic; Published by Microsoft Gamespot 9.6 | Critics Avg 9.4 | Players Avg 9.4 "Gears of War is a game that capitalizes on all of the promises made by the next generation of gaming. It looks more than a few steps beyond what consoles have been doing to this point, and the gameplay is supremely fulfilling from start to finish in all of its various modes. The game's great weapons, amazing graphics, and absolutely thrilling action make it stand out from the pack in a big, big way." - Gamespot Review
53 9 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated M (October 2007) Developed by Valve; Published by Electronic Arts Part of Half-Life series. Gamespot 9.5 | Critics Avg 9.6 | Players Avg 9.2 "... this five-games-in-one package is the kind of crazy deal that almost forces you to shout "Now how much would you pay?" With three amazing new games and two classics all in one package, it's impossible to go wrong with The Orange Box." - Gamespot Review
81 9.1 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated M (November 2007) Developed by Infinity Ward; Published by Activision Part of Call of Duty series. Gamespot 9.0 | Critics Avg 9.4 | Players Avg 9.4 "It's a shame that the single-player is so brief, but you should only skip out on Call of Duty 4 if you're the sort of person who doesn't appreciate great first-person shooter multiplayer. The quality of the content in the campaign is totally top-shelf, and the multiplayer is some of the best around, making this a truly superb package." - Gamespot Review
76 9.1 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated M (August 2007) Developed by 2K Boston; Published by 2K Games Gamespot 9.0 | Critics Avg 9.5 | Players Avg 9.2 "It builds an amazing atmosphere by using terrific graphics and sound to set a creepy mood. But BioShock's real strengths are as a compelling work of interactive fiction, and as a unique ride through a warped world with some great payoff built into its mysterious plot." - Gamespot Review
188 8.5 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated M (September 2007) Developed by Bungie; Published by Microsoft Part of Halo series. Gamespot 9.5 | Critics Avg 9.3 | Players Avg 8.9 "On the surface, Halo 3 is every bit the sequel you would expect it to be, in that it delivers meaningful upgrades to both the story-driven and competitive sides of the package. However, it's the addition of the Forge level editor and the saved films that give the game an even longer set of legs." - Gamespot Review
127 7.8 Genre: Tactical Shooter, Rated T (March 2006) Developed by Ubisoft Paris; Published by Ubisoft Gamespot 9.2 | Critics Avg 9.0 | Players Avg 9.1 "A solid and challenging campaign and a unique, online-co-op mode combine with an unmatched presentation in what is arguably the best game yet on the Xbox 360. Even those who don't necessarily like shooters may want to at least try the game out." - Gamespot Review
76 8.5 Genre: Tactical Shooter, Rated M (November 2006) Developed by Ubisoft Montreal; Published by Ubisoft Part of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series. Gamespot 9.1 | Critics Avg 8.9 | Players Avg 9.2 "... this new Rainbow Six is like the new Las Vegas. It's refreshed, reinvented, and ready to take on the world, and it's also one of the best tactical shooters on the Xbox 360 to date." - Gamespot Review
43 8.6 Genre: Rythm, Rated E (November 2007) Developed by Harmonix, Published by MTV Games Gamespot 9.0 | Critics Avg 9.3 | Players Avg 9.0 "Rock Band is every wannabe musician's dream. A game that takes the four key instruments one needs to make a band a rock band (guitar, bass, drums, vocals), and builds a highly playable and intensely addictive game around them." - Gamespot Review
79 8.4 Genre: Sci-Fi RPG, Rated M (November 2007) Developed by BioWare, Published by Microsoft Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 9.1 | Players Avg 9.2 "BioWare has created a politically charged universe with an exhaustive backstory and filled it with a bunch of interesting, multifaceted characters. Combined with an exciting and unique combat mechanic, it makes for a fun and absorbing experience that you'll want to see through to the end." - Gamespot Review
66 8.2 Genre: Rythm, Rated T (April 2007) Developed by Harmonix, Published by RedOctane Gamespot 8.9 | Critics Avg 9.2 | Players Avg 9.1 "That 360 owners can now see what PS2 owners have been enjoying so much over the last couple of years with the Guitar Hero series, and do it with even more added content, is a fantastic thing." - Gamespot Review
136 8.3 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated T (November 2005) Developed by Infinity Ward; Published by Activision Part of Call of Duty series. Gamespot 8.8 | Critics Avg 9.0 | Players Avg 9.1 "Call of Duty 2 sets a high standard for any shooters following in its footsteps on Microsoft's new console, and it's considerably faster, prettier, and more exciting than most any other shooter available on consoles." - Gamespot Review
46 8.1 Genre: Racing, Rated E (May 2007) Developed by Microsoft, Published by Microsoft Gamespot 9.2 | Critics Avg 9.0 | Players Avg 8.9 "It's a testament to the original Forza's design that this sequel can feel both so much like the original and yet so much better at the same time. If you've got even an inkling of a theory that you might like driving games, you need to play Forza 2." - Gamespot Review
75 8 Genre: Action, Rated M (November 2007) Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Published by Ubisoft Gamespot 9.0 | Critics Avg 8.2 | Players Avg 8.9 "Here is one of the most unique gameworlds ever created: beautiful, memorable, and alive. Every crack and crevasse is filled with gorgeous, subtle details, from astounding visual flourishes to overheard cries for help. But it's more than just a world--it's a fun and exciting action game with a ton of stuff to do and places to explore." - Gamespot Review
18 8.8 Genre: Racing, Rated E (January 2008) Developed by Criterion; Published by Electronic Arts Gamespot 9.0 | Critics 8.9 | Players 8.7 "The open-world design isn't just a lazy gimmick--it's a wonderfully executed concept that doesn't rob the game of the series' most beloved tenet: the act of driving fast and wrecking hard. ... if you have any affection for the series, you really owe it to yourself to give the full game a look." - Gamespot Review
141 7.4 Genre: Racing, Rated E (November 2005) Developed by Bizarre; Published by Microsoft Gamespot 8.8 | Critics 8.9 | Players 8.8 "For pure style, speed, and immersion, grabbing a seat in any of PGR 3's intricately modeled high-speed rigs and tearing through the streets is what the next generation of gaming is all about." - Gamespot Review
30 8.3 Genre: Tactical Shooter, Rated T (March 2007) Developed by Red Storm; Published by Ubisoft Gamespot 8.7 | Critics Avg 8.6 | Players Avg 8.9 "The single-player game is fun, but its brevity is certainly an issue. Still, if you're a fan of modern combat, (or if you have Xbox Live for its multi-player component) GRAW 2 makes a compelling case for a game that you have to play." - Gamespot Review
58 8.4 Genre: Racing, Rated E (March 2006) Developed by Criterion; Published by Electronic Arts Gamespot 8.8 | Critics 8.8 | Players 8.8 "While Burnout Revenge might not have enough new stuff in it to drag you back in if you've been playing it on other platforms, this is definitely the version to get if you're shopping around. It delivers solid, fast action, both online and off, and is easily the fastest, most exciting racing game available on the Xbox 360." - Gamespot Review
59 8.3 Genre: Stealth Action, Rated M (October 2006) Developed by Ubisoft Shanghai; Published by Ubisoft Part of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series. Gamespot 8.5 | Critics 8.5 | Players 8.8 "Double Agent's few keen twists on Splinter Cell's single-player gameplay don't result in a remarkably different experience from the previous games, though it's still some of the best stealth action out there." - Gamespot Review
91 7.7 Genre: 3D Fighting, Rated M (December 2005) Developed by Team Ninja; Published by Tecmo Gamespot 8.8 | Critics 8.6 | Players 8.6 "It's simple: If you like fighting games, DOA4 is for you. Between its great selection of powerful fighters, its terrific action, and its addictive online mode, there's an awful lot to sink your teeth into, learn, and master in this latest and greatest installment in the series." - Gamespot Review
56 7.7 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated T (November 2006) Developed by Treyarch; Published by Activision Part of Call of Duty series. Gamespot 8.8 | Critics Avg 8.3 | Players Avg 8.6 "The visuals are fantastic and the sound is some of the best in any game to date. Though there's no question that Call of Duty 3 is every bit as good as its predecessor, none of the changes or additions to the single-player campaign significantly alter the way the game plays." - Gamespot Review
6 8 Genre: Real-Time Strategy, Rated T (May 2007) Developed by EA L.A.; Published by Electronic Arts Gamespot 8.7 | Critics Avg 8.1 | Players Avg 8.6 "Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars proves that strategy has a big role to play on consoles. Not only is it a great game, but it's a great example of a console RTS done right. If you've never played a Command & Conquer game before, there's no better time than the present." - Gamespot Review
10 8.6 Genre: Sports, Rated E (September 2007) Developed by Electronic Arts; Published by Electronic Arts Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 8.5 | Players Avg 8.6 "The AI has been thoroughly reworked, so it now looks and feels much, much more like the real-life sport. Throw in some balance improvements to the skill stick, a gaggle of new online modes, and an improved dynasty mode, and you've got an all-around great hockey game." - Gamespot Review
12 8.7 Genre: Tactical Shooter, Rated M (March 2008) Developed by Ubisoft Montreal; Published by Ubisoft Part of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series. Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 8.2 | Players Avg 8.6 "If the original Rainbow Six Vegas felt like the first night of a trip to Sin City, its recently released sequel feels like the second; a little worn, but still a lot of fun. A third night of this might be too much to handle, but if you like to place bets with bullets at all, you'll definitely want to put some money down on Rainbow Six Vegas 2." - Gamespot Review
24 7.2 Genre: First-Person Shooter, Rated M (October 2006) Developed by Monolith, Published by Sierra Part of F.E.A.R. series. Gamespot 8.7 | Critics Avg 8.4 | Players Avg 8.5 "F.E.A.R. is a shooter that captures the sensation of being in wild and desperate firefights, and it's an incredible experience from start to finish. More notably, however, it's one of the most atmospheric and creepy games ever made." - Gamespot Review

8 7.8 Genre: Fighting, Rated T (October 2007) Developed by Sega, Published by Sega Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 9.0 | Players Avg 8.3 "Virtua Fighter 5 is a great fighting game and the addition of a good multiplayer mode only makes it better. But keep in mind that the game is geared toward players who have experience with the series and isn't always friendly to new players." - Gamespot Review
13 8.6 Genre: Horror, Rated M (March 2008) Developed by Monolith, Published by Sega Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 8.1 | Players Avg 8.5 "Like a good slasher flick, the game makes no bones about its controversial content; it lets you decide how you want to execute each maniacal foe and then showcases the mutilation in macabre detail. It's impressive how well Bloodshot manages to one-up the original Condemned's violence at every turn." - Gamespot Review
9 7.5 Genre: Flight, Rated T (October 2007) Developed by Namco Bandai, Published by Namco Bandai Gamespot 8.5 | Critics Avg 8.1 | Players Avg 8.5 "Ace Combat 6 provides the most immersive experience yet in an arcade flight combat game, thanks to smooth, gorgeous visuals and polished gameplay. Description This list shows off all the biggest and best titles released so far, for the Xbox 360 console. It is based primarily on Gamespot reviews and scoring, 8.0 or higher rated games, but I've made exceptions for games that Gamespot may have rated poorly but Critics Score (average scores across dozens of game review sites) and/or Players Score (rating average of thousands of Gamespot users) is above 8.0. This should give a good overview of what the best Xbox 360 games are out at the moment. This list is sorted by highest-rated game criteria. I do however take Critics Average, Players Average, as well as Listal's Average to have the sorting truly reflect Top Rated games. For upcoming 2008/2009 releases, go to the New XBOX 360 Releases list. ![]() Share this list
