This is a true masterpiece. Great story (I just love post apocalypse) with awesome world. This has everything and ~100 hours of gameplay is very, very much for me. Fallout 3 doesn't have boring parts, only game engine could be better. And also level cap higher.
This is fifth big GTA for me. First was GTA, then came second one and the third one blowed my mind. GTA was everything you want ever do in video games: do anything you want. Drive around, kill some people, follow a good story and now all this in 3D. Then came Vice City which was a big thing then and it's still great game with the best OST and theme ever in video game history.
GTA IV is just everything, but it has awesome physics and great graphics which didn't have before. Also the story is the best after Vice City's own and this really is like a movie.
Valve did it again. A great game which really needs cooperative for being good. Only fucked up thing is that the sequel came a year after this so they made only one campaign more for four original, and it sucked. Of course there's fan made campaigns but half of those either doesn't work or just sucks ass, so a very little part of them are good.
Single player is full of brutal action and epic scenes. Like Modern Warfare 1 and 2 this is linear too and as good looking as a great action movie. Not a masterpiece, but certainly gives nice eight hours.
I haven't ended this yet, but have played something like 15 hours. When you got inside the game, it's nice to drive around savanna and watch rising sun with stunning graphic effects. But the immersion is broken when those re-spawning fuckers are again raping you from back. The biggest problem are those re-spawning enemies and also quests are all the same: answer phone, go there, kill him, go there and start over. Without those "little" problems this is a good game, which has great game engine.
I listed my favorite PC games from 2008. Games are in order.
