From "True Detective". One of the creepiest villains not only from tv but in any piece of art in a long time. He kills women and children all because he thinks it will gain him some sort of glory and blessing. His killings were committed for years and he almost got away with it. He was only on screen for a limited of time but he leaves such a lasting impression and his presence is felt throughout the whole season.

From "Oz". Lets count why he is a villain: he's a rapist, murderer, racist, and a sadist. He may have gone to jail to stop his sons from taking drugs but what he does in jail makes him such a despicable human being. What he does to the character Tobias Beecher makes him one of the most vile villains in tv history. Everyone was counting the days till he died.

From "Breaking Bad". After Gus Fring, it would have been impossible to top him but with Todd they came real close. He is quite possibly the most polite and well mannered Neo-Nazi ever. Under all that manners though is someone who is truly evil and the text book definition of a sociopath. He commits an act so unforgivable that it made him one of the most evil people this show has ever had. Don't let that face fool you. He kills without so much of a flinch and thought.

From "Supernatural". Just look at that face! Look at how damn smug it is! On a show that had The Devil himself, who would have guessed that it would have been an angel who was the best villain. He bothered the brothers constantly and would threaten their lives so a supposed prophecy would be filled. Zachariah always looked down on humans and loved to boost about himself. The very definition of a cocky despicable character. But he was fun to watch!

From "Lost". All he wanted was to get off the damn island! His body may have been gone but his soul was forever stuck on the island. He killed and manipulated whoever got in his way. He took many forms to confuse and turn people to his side. His form as Locke was one of the truly more terrifying villains on tv in a long time. But his form as The Smoke Monster was the stuff of legend.

From "Jessica Jones". One of the creepiest villains ever. His mind control powers definitely make for a very scary villain but it's his obsessive and creepy personality that truly makes him disgusting. He is basically every internet "nice guy" or "troll" all in one but somehow worse.

From "Banshee". Banshee has a ton of villains to choose from and all of them are great. But Chayton Littlestone to me has been the most interesting and terrifying. He is strong, unstoppable, and has the spirit of a warrior. He also is one of the most brutal people on the show. Nothing in this world seems to stop him and he knows it. I think what I also like about him is he cares about the people in his tribe. It makes him complex. But he still commits some truly brutal acts on this show.

From "Hannibal". Anthony Hopkins made a classic character with his Hannibal Lecter. But Mads Mikkelsen has brought a whole new interpretation to the character that is dark and mysterious. This Hannibal is charming and has a way of making you feel special. You never are sure if he means what he is saying. And to top it all off he is a serial killer that eats people!

From "The Wire". The second in command of a street gang who has big ambitions. Stringer likes to model his gang like a business and sees himself like a business man. To do this he is willing to kill whoever gets in his way.

From "The Sopranos". She may not have actually killed anyone on the show but she none the less is the cause of a lot of misery. A horrible mother and just an all around mean person. She was abusive to her children and to anyone that even showed her the tiniest bit of attention. Also, conspiring to murder her son certainly doesn't help.

From "Boardwalk Empire". Don't so much as look at him wrong or say "hi" to him in the wrong way. He is one crazy son of a bitch who takes the slightest insult as a massive gut punch to his ego. Violent and one of the best insult comics around. Nucky met his match with Gyp as he did what it takes to stay on top and right when he feels he has been wronged.

From "Orange is the New Black". Also known as Vee. When Vee came into this show, she really shook things up! She has a way with words and is very charismatic. But underneath that is someone who only cares about themselves. She creates a very cult like group among her little gang and knows how to manipulate people. All the inmates were smart to watch out for her.

From "Game of Thrones". While everyone is fearing Joffrey and Ramsay (rightfully so), Cersei is someone you should really fear. If you get on her bad side then you are screwed. It isn't so much that she would kill you, she would make you suffer and kill everyone you have ever known. What makes her scarier too is the fact that a lot of what she does is for family. She does love her children and will do anything for them.

From "Fargo". Much like Anton Chigurh, Malvo doesn't even feel human but more chaos personified. He appears to want to cause nothing but destruction and death. Even in small interactions he has, he wants to do nothing but cause misery and play with people like it's a game.

From "Dexter". On the outside, Arthur Mitchell appears to be a church going family man. But behind the man was a serial killer who had been doing it for over thirty years. He had a method to his killings that offered a peek inside his mind and childhood. Dexter Morgan brought out the worse in him and he truly was a match for Dexter. His final act also left such a lasting impression on the show his presence was still felt even when he left.

From "Fargo". Hands down one of the most vile and grossest villains I have ever seen. And I don't just mean his teeth. Varga is just plain evil incarnate and he is terrifying in every scene he is in. He's like a parasite, he just sucks all the goodness out of anybody and anywhere. But somehow you also can't help but be captivated every time he is on screen, which a lot of that is due to David Thewlis playing him wonderfully. Varga has no redeemable qualities and represents everything wrong with the world.

From "Twin Peaks". The stuff nightmares are made out of. Just plain evil that only wants to inflict suffering on the world. It helps that Bob looks scary as hell too. Bob also feels unstoppable which add to his evil. Even the "good" people on this show feel helpless with him around.

From "Justified". Robert Quarles when he first arrived in Harlan appeared to be a clean cut dapper man. But as the season progressed and he turned to Oxy, he became the truly insane, unpredictable, and evil man he was. But man was he fun to watch! He had a gun hidden in his sleeve and with a flick of his wrist could shoot you dead. This made every scene he appeared in tense as you never were sure when he would use it.

From "Breaking Bad". Gus Fring appeared to be a kind and calm fast food restaurant owner who was a pillar of his community. But behind closed doors he was a ruthless Meth distributor. One look from this man could send anyone to the grave. He would do what it takes to stay on top even going as far as to threaten and kill children. He could do this and then on the very next day go to work with a smile on his face.

From "Justified". The head of The Bennett clan crime family after her husband died, she is ruthless and does what it takes to keep her family on top. She may look like a kind grandma but she is scarier and more conniving than most of the criminals in Harlan. And be careful when she makes you her famous "apple pie"!

These are in my opinion the best tv villains of all time. I chose 20 so there would be a greater variety of evil. There are some spoilers here so beware.
