1. Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Note : The true story on which the movie is based is really amazing. It is my favorite Spielberg film. It is funny and sad at the same time. A great entertaining movie.

2. Bowling for Columbine (2002)

Note : I think this movie is great. I know it is completely biased and the images are probably manipulated but it doesn't matter. This movie is at the same time entertaining, moving and educating. A great achievement.

3. City of God (2002)

Note : This movie is at the same time really stylised and realistic. It has some complex shots and nice visuals but it remains rauw. The story keeps you on the edge and is quite fascinating. A great achievement.

4. In This World (2002)

Note : I think Michael Winterbottom is a very amazing director who deserves much more recognition.

This movie was the winner of the Golben Bear at the 2003 Berlin film festival.

This movie shows how a young boy (14-15 years old, I think) goes from Pakistan to England, illegally. It is so dangerous, harrowing and just plain horrible. After seeing this movie, I'll bet you will have some doubt about the anti-immigration laws . Do they have any purpose, considering that if people live in despair, they will risk anything, even their life to find a better place to live with hope of a future ?

5. The Pianist (2002)

Note : Roman Polanski is one of my favorite directors and still in 2000's he keeps making great pictures. This story is harrowing and Adrien Brody gives a huge perfomance (what has happened to him ? Seven years later, starring in "Predators'... What the f*ck!). A great achievement.

6. Amen. (2002)

Note : This movie is not as known as 'Schindler's list' or 'The Pianist' but it's a pity because it is a great and fascinating picture.

7. Infernal Affairs (2002)

Note : I was fortunate to see this movie before 'The Departed'. Even though Scorsese's version was pretty good, I prefer this movie anyway. Great directing, great acting, fascinating story.

8. Hero (2002)

Note : I'm not big fan of Jet Li and this movie is probably the only one I really enjoyed. The story is entertaining enough but, most of all, it has to be one of the most gorgeous movie I have ever seen. Definitely worth a look.

9. Whale Rider (2002)

Note : Most movies evolving around kids are usually so uninspired and so sugarcoated, there are a waste of time, even for children. Not this movie. The story is riveting and the perfomances are very good. Definitely worth a look.

10. Adaptation (2002)

Note : I know a lot of people trash Nicolas Cage and it is true that many of his movies are worthless. However, I still believe he is a very talented actor and from time to time, out of nowhere, he gives one of the best perfomance of the year. This movie is a good example of this "phenomenom". Of course, Cage is not the only actors giving a good perfomance in this movie. The writing and directing are amazing as well. Definitely worth a look.

A few of these I still need to see. Never had any interest in Catch Me If You Can, but maybe I should rethink that.
