I didn't even know that Robert Downey, Jr. had been on Ally McBeal.

Downey was on that show during its fourth season (2000-01) and he enjoyed good reviews which resulted in him winning a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination. But his drug problems around that time had been getting worse, and got arrested for another drug bust, which caused him to get fired as a result.
