Humans are preoccupied and fascinated with our own mortality. There are thousands of movies titles that are linked with the word 'die,' 'death,' 'dead,' or 'kill.' These are a few of the best sounding titles.
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
This sounds like an English translated title of a Japanese comic book. But alas, it's a 1960's classic about mean girls and violence. It's really hard to imagine a better title to go along with this movie.
The Dogs of War
I'd be interested to know how many Shakespearean snippets became movie titles. In the case of this movie title, it was Julius Ceasar Act 3, Scene 1 line 273.
Revenge of the Nerds
Imagine how lame it would have sounded if they simply called the movie "Nerds' Revenge". Somehow the 'of the' makes the title sound more impactful.
Masters of the Universe
This is the movie based on the popular cartoon and toy line. The production company behind this movie smartly removed the 'He-Man' preface in their movie, 'Masters of the Universe'.
True Romance
I've heard of a lot of different types of romance. But true romance? If you want to get cynical, it's practically an oxymoron. If you want to get simple, it just sounds cool.
Reservoir Dogs
Is it just me, or does Quentin Tarantino like two word titles? This movie has nothing to do with dogs, or reservoirs. And yet, it still fits somehow.
Pulp Fiction
The beginning of this movie has a dictionary definition of the word 'pulp,' and the word 'fiction.' It still doesn't explain why it's the title of the movie, but doesn't make it any less awesome.
Vanishing Point
Vanishing point has to do with perspective in drawing and the point at which parallel lines appear to converge. In the case of the movie, I think its purpose was to sound badass.
Terminal Velocity
With a title this cool, you'd think the movie would be just as cool. But not even a cool title, Charlie Sheen, or Nastassja Kinski could keep this movie from going down at 9.81 meters per second²
The X Files
I suppose you could call this one 'Fight The Future' instead, since that's technically the movie title. Fight the Future sounds pretty cool too.
Joseph Grey's rating:
I had planned on making this list months ago, but became distracted when I started making all those TV lists.
These are some of the most direct, cool sounding or ominous movie titles. Suggestions are welcome, but I'll stop before I get to 100 items.
Here are a couple off the top of my head that make me wonder:
"The Way We Were"
"Enough"
"I Married a Witch"
"Teeth"
and "Coneheads"
