Will These Movies EVER Get Made?!
How long have we been waiting? Sin City 2 was originally slated to hit cinemas in 2006. I vividly remember first seeing the movie on the release schedule for that particular year. However, troubles began to arise. And they continued. And then Robert Rodriguez got to work on other movies (including shit like Shorts). It seems as if no-one is committed to making this movie at all!
UPDATE (July 2011): According to RR, he's as close as he's ever been, and the film is very close to finally becoming a reality. UPDATE (May 2012): Wow, it's apparently happening. Officially. Set for release in October 2013. I'll believe it when I see it. How long have we been waiting? Since around 2006/07, when Sin City 2 was rumoured to be going into production sometime soon. But as with SC2, people just aren't committed enough to bringing the thing to the big screen.
How long have we been waiting? Frankly, we've been waiting since forever. Then when Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King hit cinemas in 2003, it was everyone's fond hope that Peter Jackson would get to work on them. But then there were troubles over copyright ownership and so on. In late 2007, the ball started officially rolling. So I guess you could say we've been waiting since then. But because of MGM's financial crisis, the project has been long-delayed.
UPDATE: On October 15th, 2010, the films were green-lit at long last. Filming started in March 2011, and this first film will be released in 2012. Happy days!! PvtCaboose91's rating:
How long have we been waiting? Note above. Same story.
How long have we been waiting? Absolutely ages. Jurassic Park III hit cinemas in 2001, and since then it's just been a series of rumours and false promises. It was only a few years back that word broke that the project was ready to roll. But then it was officially cancelled. So who knows if this will ever get made...
UPDATE (July 2011): Spielberg has said that work has officially started. Maybe it's finally on its way? How long have we been waiting? Since 2001, when the first Kung Pow was unleashed upon the world tagged with a trailer at the end for this follow-up. In the years to follow, tiny fragments have been collected to suggest the movie is moving forward, but never anything concrete or official. Damnit, I want another Kung Pow! Get this fucker made!!
How long have we been waiting? I can't say with absolute certainty, but we've probably been waiting since about 2005 or earlier. The problem? Nobody has officially green-lit the thing yet. I guess there's script trouble.
How long have we been waiting? Since the original Bubba Ho-tep back in 2002. Rumours started circulating about a sequel, and Bruce Campbell was keen to return as Elvis Presley. But then stuff changed, the project kept getting delayed, Campbell dropped out, and now we have no idea if this thing will ever get made.
How long have we been waiting? Really, we've been waiting since the remake of The Italian Job hit cinemas in '03, but I don't believe the sequel rumours started until about a year or two later. And then the project got delayed. And delayed. And delayed. And delayed.
How long have we been waiting? Rumours started circulating about an Austin Powers 4 not long after Goldmember entered multiplexes in 2002. Since then, we've gotten fragments of news that keep the hope alive that someday we'll see another instalment of this awesome spy spoof franchise.
How long have we been waiting? One could realistically argue that we've been waiting since the early '90s when The Naked Gun 33 1/3 came out, but it's only in the past few years that a Naked Gun 4 started being officially prepped. But it's been a number of years since the first script reviews appeared, and nothing is happening.
UPDATE: Leslie Nielsen is dead. Thus, this film is dead along with it. It's a total, total tragedy, and I'm inconsolable. How long have we been waiting? I believe the project was first spearheaded in 2007 or 2008, and since then nobody knows what the hell is happening with it. Even despite official posters, nothing is happening.
How long have we been waiting? Since 2007, I believe. It's been a long, long road of people dropping out since then.
How long have we been waiting? Oh God, since the early noughties. Since 2004 or 2005 at least. This is a textbook example of a film that has been long-delayed. Neil Blomkamp was hired by Peter Jackson back in '05 (I think) to direct the project, but after a lot of prepping the project was shut down thanks to legal mumbo jumbo. Who knows if this thing is still happening...
How long have we been waiting? Since 2003 or 2004 at least. I remember IMDb listing the release date as 2005 at one stage. Good lord, this thing has been long delayed.
How long have we been waiting? Technically since the original film back in 2004, but talks of a sequel never really started until 2007 or 2008. Back then everything was looking promising. But then the delays kicked in. Oh so many delays and setbacks.
UPDATE: Will Ferrell has officially announced that the sequel has been greenlit, and we'll be seeing it in 2013. How long have we been waiting? Talk of this film began back sometime in the mid-noughties I believe. Everything started getting more serious around 2008 due to Eddie Murphy's career declining in popularity, but, as with most movies on this list, it just kept getting delayed.
How long have we been waiting? I believe Stallone began talking about this movie back in 2007, when he wanted to make a sequel to Cliffhanger. This was in the midst of his success streak, as Rocky 6 was a success and he was busy at work finishing Rambo 4. But...nothing happened. We're still waiting.
How long have we been waiting? Jesus, I don't even know for sure. Ben Stiller has been saying the film will happen for many, many years.
How long have we been waiting? Since 2000, when Terry Gilliam started production on his dream project...and troubles caused production to shut down completely. All the troubles were chronicled in the documentary Lost in La Mancha. In recent years, talks began recommencing about the film, but it's still being delayed...
How long have we been waiting? Since 2006, when the first script draft was turned in. Since then, Guillermo del Toro has had trouble getting the required funding, leading to the project being delayed indefinitely.

Newt has been postponed indefinitely.
They've changed directors from Paul W.S. Anderson to the Saw director. I don't have too much hope for the film, but I'd like to see it brought to life nonetheless and judge for myself.
You could add Stone's return to Vietnam with "Pinkville".
Perhaps it's just another false rumor, but I recently read Zoolander 2 has finally been greenlit...
Enjoyed the list!
Mad Max 4
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote - since 2000
At the Mountains of Madness - since 2006
The Sandman - since late 90's
also John Carter of Mars would've been great addition to the list, but I guess it's coming next year since it's already in post-production. It was in Development hell for 79 years.
And yeah, John Carter of Mars is already in post-production, so again it'd be a superfluous addition. The others are great suggestions though :)
EDIT: There's no page of The Sandman, so I can't add it.
Not sure what the status is now, other than some "official artwork" being released.
I'll look into Voltron.

I'm happy for you, bonehead. But with each "Its dead" announcement we get another more optimistic announcement. Remember when Anchorman 2 was dead?
You could add the Justice League movie to it, it has been awaited for some years now. Although I think it got cancelled.
Jurassic Park 4 shouldn't get done if it's going to suck as musch as the third one.
