The Most Overrated Films
I personally didn't find this movie intriguing. Maybe it was the Alien itself, I don't know, but I did not enjoy this. Maybe overrated, or maybe just not my cup of tea. Also, not a fan of Sigourney Weaver.
The Cinephile's rating:
I might be one in a million, but I really wasn't feeling this movie at all. It is on the IMDB top 250 somehow.
The Cinephile's rating:
I loved Natalie Portman, but personally didn't much like Reno. He's a good actor, just his character in this film bugged me. It's not a horrible film, it's actually solid, just not a masterpiece.
The Cinephile's rating:
Just a spectacle of excellent special effects, and I'm sorry to say that's all it was. The story was going nowhere, and the romance shown was unnecessary as well. I don't find this a masterpiece at all, and feel it was too hyped up.
The Cinephile's rating:
A very enjoyable film, but nothing super intriguing. Tarantino creatively puts together a good piece of work. The ratings just don't exactly make any sense to me.
The Cinephile's rating:
The only Hitchcock film I wasn't fond of. Not frightening, and not very suspenseful. I did however enjoy the chemistry between the main characters, and the fact that the movie looked like it was from the 80's was impressive too.
The Cinephile's rating:
Boring, ridiculous, and just plain stupid.
The Cinephile's rating:
I just found this movie very dull, filled with absolutely nothing scary like tons of critics and viewers have said. The whole duration of the film isn't filled with much.
The Cinephile's rating:
I've never been a fan of fantasy films filled with swords, arrows, magic etc. so this really isn't a surprise. It's very well made, and it's a little intriguing, but I really didn't like the two that I saw.
The Cinephile's rating:
Same as the first.
The Cinephile's rating:
I will admit that the franchise has an extremely clever concept, however I don't find Freddy Krueger creepy, nor did I find any of the films suspenseful in the least bit. In fact, I find it to be quite silly.
The Cinephile's rating:
Highly uneventful, and not suspenseful in the least bit. Maybe I missed something, because it's considered to be a horror classic to tons of people.
The Cinephile's rating:
Just pure pointless shooting. Absolutely no story, a bad film that people seem to like.
The Cinephile's rating:
Not very appealing to me. It won best animated feature of 08, yet I wasn't at all into it. The message behind it wasn't very good either.
The Cinephile's rating:
I don't know, this "Classic" just didn't interest me at all. Not a whole lot happened during the film, and the premise isn't my forte.
The Cinephile's rating:
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie, but in the end it's just your average crime story, with the exception of the excellent finish, maybe the best "WTF?" ending I've seen.
The Cinephile's rating:
Yes, the movie nobody in the world dislikes, the amazing "masterpiece" is on this list. Shoot me for not drooling over it.
This movie is good, in fact I would definitely watch it multiple more times. I just don't think it's a masterpiece. The acting is off the chains, and I really enjoyed the story, but it just didn't quite fit in for me. The Cinephile's rating:
I heard so many good things from this one, but really it's just a very depressing and non enjoyable flick, and I'm one of the people who enjoy depressing movies, so that's really saying something.
The Cinephile's rating:
I know this has only been out for a little while. But a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes!? c'mon man, really? It's entirely overrated to say the least. I enjoyed the acting (Kind of) and the promise was there. It was too cheesy and predictable, not to mention mundane.
The Cinephile's rating:
An enjoyable film, with a great ending and some excellently filmed dark atmospheric scenes, but in the end it is truly just a general serial killer flick. Seriously.
The Cinephile's rating:
Bad acting from everyone except Scatman and Jack. The wife couldn't have been more of a nuisance, while the young kid just says all the cheesy one liners from many horrors before and after it. "The Shining" is predictable, uneven, corny, and just too dry to really get involved in.
On a positive note: the atmosphere was excellent. The Cinephile's rating:
Well, I like this film, but it's VERY cheesy, and seems like it's trying to make fun of the audience with it's plain and general dialogue. The story was complex, and had a lot of interesting sub-stories that intertwined, but Nolan just didn't connect the dots to my liking. Not to mention the predictability.
On a positive note: Beautifully shot, excellent soundtrack, and Christian Bale. The Cinephile's rating:
"The Thing" replaces real thrills with ridiculous looking alien creatures that pop up quite frequently, and had no impact on me. The acting on Kurt Russel's part was great, but the whole thing was just a non-suspenseful mess. Not Carpenter's high point.
The Cinephile's rating:
All these characters are somewhat funny. However, the whole plot is just too dull, and I found it impossible to fully enjoy.
The Cinephile's rating:
A simple case of preference, I believe. A very slow moving thriller, that, in the end, just isn't rewarding enough. I thought the acting was very good, but the whole narrative wasn't going anywhere interesting.
The Cinephile's rating:
A few intense sequences here and there, but overall, Joel and Ethan Coen's directorial debut is void of any real depth.
The Cinephile's rating:
For now, Rotten Tomatoes has this at 96%. And while that may not mean a lot, I have friends and family who love this movie as well. The final thirty minutes are very satisfying. The rest is, well, very pushed, very cheesy, and flat-out not fun.
The Cinephile's rating:
Predictable story, relatively annoying characters, and not wholly original.
The Cinephile's rating:
It didn't hit home in the emotional department, and I felt ripped off after viewing it.
The Cinephile's rating:
An annoying Christian Slater, with some underwhelming action sequences. This is a simple thriller, and not to mention a very dry one.
The Cinephile's rating:
O.K, we get it, drugs are terrible. Aronofsky felt the need to shove that point down our throats, with uninteresting characters, plot-lines, and no actual direction. I will admit that it did disturb me, though, and the whole downward spiral with the old lady was fairly good.
The Cinephile's rating:
I find it stupid, to be honest. It really is as simple as that. Every time I saw it, it bugged the crap out of me.
The Cinephile's rating:
I very much like both Levitt and Rogen (mostly Rogen) but felt really unattached throughout most of this movie. Its a hit-and-miss comedy/drama, that unfortunately mostly misses. Its very generic, yet so highly praised.
The Cinephile's rating:
Melodramatic, "emotional" and "deep" scenes, that never actually spark any feeling. It was basically a soap opera made for the big screen, but the result is just not worth it. Best Picture winner? Hmmmmmm............

And WALL-E, that fixing ecological disasters is simple and fun.
But the question is MovieMan does Inception belong on your list?
I unfortunately haven't seen Inception yet, for some odd reason, but most likely plan on waiting for the dvd/blu-ray release.
Appreciate the vote
By the way, if you still want to watch my list :

And I really trash some classics there, so beware!
I will check it.
Good point, and I'm glad you're paying attention to the list, explaining things and such.
Then I read "The Royal Tenenbaums" and I just started crying...I dunno who said it was supposed to be a "dark comedy", it's just a wrong definition...I find it Anderson's best movie and it's one of my all time favorite; now I know Anderson is a "love him or hate him" kind of storyteller, but I don't really see how anyone could call this "poorly written"!
I also strongly disagree on "Rosemary's Baby", "Seven", "The Man Who Wasn't there" and "Blade Runner".
(btw...I also did a similar list, check it out if u mind!)
I wonder why you watched two "Lord of the rings" movies, if you are not a fan of such stuff. Was it a homework assignment, or a boy/girlfriend forced you? I never had any intention to watch them, and an accidental viewing of about 20 minutes of one of them on TV only confirmed that it was the right decision. I don't think that they are real bad, just not for me.
I also wonder how one may think that "Not a whole lot happened during" the "Blade Runner"? Something happens all the time, and there are things which are very hard but quite interesting to figure out. Fans of this movie were wondering for more than 20 years if Harrison Ford's character is human or he is a replicant, even after Ridley Scott added 30 seconds to the movie to make the answer more transparent. Later on he just told the answer.
Blade Runner was a film I saw a LONG time ago as well. When I wasn't even close to as "movie mature" as I am today. Sooooo, I will definitely watch that one again. As well as the Alien films, and lots of others on this list.
Thanks for the feedback, by the way.
