You really need to give quite a sale speech to make me buy that Steven Spielberg is amongst the 20 bottom directors there is in the world of cinema. Rest I quite understand, well maybe not Darabont either but that's something more of an personal opinion I should think...
Great that putting Spielberg on this list provoked you at least at some level. That was somewhat my intention. Spielberg is a director I don't find quite that talented. Yet I admire his status as a filmmaker who actually has had a huge impact for cinema as it is today. In the 70s when Spielberg was still young and enthusiast he was a good director. When the audience in the 90s came wanting more than just nice thrills with a few nice camera tricks, he became a synonym for horrible sentimentalism in cinema. I don't find Spielberg as a bad director either, he's just as average as it gets. I really don't think Spielberg belongs to the club of 20 worst directors ever, he's on the list mainly for provokation and of course because of the fact that he's full of horse shit. :) Oh yes, that was so mature I'm amazed even myself.
Long story short: Personally I find Spielberg as an average director, but still I appreciate his efforts as a filmmaker. Surely he has made a few fine films and a few not so fine, but it's mostly his lack of imagination and the presence of sentimentalism in his films in the past, say 20, years that makes me dislike him. Hope you get my point somewhere. :)
As soon as i clicked the list i was thinking "i wonder if uwe boll is at the top or the bottom of the bottom directors list".. i mean, whats worse, being the nr 1 bottom director or being the bottom bottom director :D
Spielberg may not be one of the worst, but he sure as hell is one of the most overrated directors on the planet. If these other guys suck, it's because Spielberg is treated as someone they should aspire to.
Spielberg?Really?
Darabont?Honestly?
I wonder The Shawshank Redemption or Shindler's List are good movies?
I agree with Ron Howard.Terrible director.
Uwe Boll?
