Taking the concept of a multi-franchise beat 'em up game and mixing in platforming and interaction with levels/objects, the Super Smash Bros. Series created a fun, accessible alternative to other fighters where the stages offered no variety beyond different backgrounds and required quick responses to each of the opponent's moves and memorization of complex combos. Super Smash Bros. is one of those series that gets better with time - each new game features new characters, new levels, improved graphics, and extras that add to the replay value such as unlocking of trophies, alternate modes, and such. As with any good formula, it has been copied - not necessarily a bad thing, but what could ever top Nintendo and HAL Laboratory's stunning series?
This list collects all of the Super Smash Bros. games and games created in the style.
Thanks. I've been debating whether or not to include the Jump games for a few months now. I'm including them now. I'll check out the Digimon games too too make sure they fit the bill. Thanks again for the tip!
Thanks for that! Apparently there are some Japanese One Piece games that also fit this bill.
My brother said he'd give me his PS2 eventually, and hopefully with the Wii U one can play GameCube games. That way I'll be able to play more of the above listed Smash Bros.-esque games.
Wait, Cartoon Network fighter? With Johnny Bravo and MojoJojo?!?!?! WTF!! How did I not know about this before it was released!?!? I better get that for Christmas or I'm buying it. Good or bad I want it. Thx for putting it on here I may have never known :)
No problem! It's certainly not bad, and I only played the 3DS version. The Wii version has a bunch more characters and levels, better graphics and I'm assuming tighter gameplay.
Just a quick note: Ed, Edd and Eddy aren't playable. I think they're trophies though.
Yeah, I see complaints about Ed, Edd and Eddy and someone else that I don't know who it is not being in the game either. Don't care. Johnny Bravo and MojoJojo I'm sold; plus the Powerpuff girls will be cool too.
The PowerPuff Girls each have their own play styles - you gotta comment the developers for putting so much thought into that. My favorite level is inside the whale's mouth. I like to knock people out just before his mouth closes... =}
Most of the characters only go as far back as the mid-nineties, but they seemed to have made an exception for Captain Planet.
and
shonin jump games
