I made this a DVD list so I could include both the movie and TV adaptations. This is based on what I've seen so far, and is therefore subject to change.
Some of the best ones are the ones that wouldn't really be considered horror movies. I like Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and Storm Of the Century the best. [Link removed - login to see]
Nice list!
I've read quite a few of these and I'm actually reading The Running Man now.
The Shinning's got to be one of my favourites, book and movie. Very different takes on the same basis story. Two great, but very different, works of art.
Apparently, King didn't really appreciate some of Kubrik's choices in the movie, making it quite different from the original story, particularly in the characters' development throughout the movie. Loved them both, though!
I desagree on 1408. i found the movie quite good and (I can't believe I'm saying this...) I enjoyed it better than the short story. Well done, John Cusak!
My Top 5 are The Shining, Misery,
Stand By Me, The Langoliers, Pet Sematary and It -
Although I thought the book 'It' was scarier than the movie.
I highly recommend Langoliers if you haven't seen it -
it is from one of the stories in 4 Past Midnight.
