Being a Legend is thousand better than a Billboard number.
BTW that justin b. comment killed me XD
-the only jazz album most people have heard is "Kind of Blue"
-most people consider anything wirder than "I AM the Walrus" to be pretentious
-most people think the Sex Pistols created punk
It sickens me that true musical prodigies like Lenny Breau and bands like Camel don't get anywhere near the recognition that they fully deserve and will likely remain as mere "footnotes" in relation to their contemporaries who are continually greeted with exorbitant praise (best this, best that, hall of fame material, blah blah blah), which reminds me how fucked up of a world we live in.
1.6. and 8: Maybe they were "competing" against better artists (though I guess a lot of crappy musicians got number 1 singles back then too)
2: Kind of understandable considering there were about 3-3.7 billion people in the world when they were active, and there were nearly 7 billion when Tik Tok was released. (and music is spread more easily to all over the world because of the internet, and people are generally richer now then back then, so more people can afford to buy music)
Number 3,4 and 9 is basically the same as number 2, and number 10 is also kind of the same (though a closer time period)
5: I have no explanation :(
7. Maybe there are more bands similar to pearl jam, johnny cash and tom petty. so a lot of people who might want to buy their records, bought others instead, while Barbra Streisand is the only of her kind ( i can't really say though, since I've never listened to Barbra Streisand, and i'm really just grasping at straws at the moment)
11. Touche..
I hope this makes people a little less sad :)
I don't necessarily think music's worse nowadays; the filler stuff seems to get more media attention, though. Then again, I'm not much more than two decades old, so I can't say from personal experience.
The sadness thing is that it's right, Justin Bieber exists while a lot of great musicians passed away. :/
musicians like Hendrix, Cash or The Beatles worked so hard to be successfull, and their music got a message, background and personality. Today a bored child earns millions and doesn't even have to be able to sing, just has to look good - what a weird world...
