The Pequod
Originally from the 19th century novel Moby Dick, by Herman Melville, the Pequod was captain Aheb's ship. Descriptions of the ship appear throughout the novel, with a whole chapter dedicated to it. It was three-masted and decked out with teeth and bones of whales killed by it's crew. They tried to picture it on the movies in the best way they could... unfortunely, it's always much more marvelous when described by Ishamel. The Nautilus
The Nautilus was Captain Nemo's submarine, originally created by Jules Verne on the homonimous novel. The "submerging boat" became famous due to his concept, unexpected for the century the book was released. It's most famous screen appearence was on 1954's movie, produced by Walt Disney. The RMS Titanic
The tragedy aorund the Titanic was already well-known when the movie was released. The movie - despite the fact it's pretty good - did not made justice to it. About 90 years after the true happening, the ship was re-built on screen, allowing it to live on everybody's mind for a little bit longer than it should. It became so outstanding that you can almost feel really sad when you see it breaking in half. The Black Pearl
Originally named Wiked Wench, the Black Pearl is a fictional ship in Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and said to be "uncatchable". It could be recognized by it's black hull and sails. It used to comissionated to Captain Jack Sparrow, until Captain Barbossa led mutiny against him. The ship was cursed when it's crew stole Aztec gold, and turned everyone in creepy living-deads (or such). The Flying Dutchman
The other cursed ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the Flying Dutchman belonged to the wicked Captain Dave Jones. It was named after a famous ship on nautical lore. It could both sail on the sea or go underwater trought it, seeking for souls which could serve on board for 100 years. It resembles a sailfish and sails better against the wind. The Alien Mothership
The alien mothership was conceived by Spielberg himself. It had no proper name and the piece for the movie were built with model train parts and other kits. When filmed under the lightening effects, it appeared to be huge (and pretty intimidating). I consider it a very remarkable ship, since it held my breath when I saw it on screen. The U.S.S. Discovery One
The Discovery One is a fictional spaceship and appeared in all The Space Odyssey series, including Kubrick's movie, when it became truly remembered by the major public. It was originally built for attending a Jupiter mission, wich was after switched (I'll refrain from inform more, for I do not wish to ruin the movie to anyone). it's computer, HAL 9000 also became one of the most remarkable sentient machines of the movies. The Nostromo
The Nostromo is a fictional, commercial spaceship originally, returning to Earth hauling refinery and tons of minerals. It's crew was composed of seven people, all of them previously under suspended animation. The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701
The Enterprise NCC 1701 became famous as the flagship of the Star Trek series. The sequels and movies presented us another six more homonimous ship, but none of them became so outstanding as the original one and it's "D" version (as listed below). Under the command of Captain James T. Kirk was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in service during the twenty-third century. it became the most celebrated Federation Starfleet vessel of that time period. The U.S.S. Enterpise NCC 1701 - D
As the last part of the Star Trek chronicles created and produced by Gene Roddenberry, the Next Generation series came out with very remarkable characters and, of course, with a brand new Enterprise. The "D" version was a Galaxy-classstarship (far bigger than the original one) It was under the command of Capatin Jean-Luc Picard, and was the Federation's flagship. It became outstanding due to it's new size and capability, wich included a separation of it's disc-section. The Borg Cube The Borg were feared, for sure. Their ship were not only as weird as them, but also is a living image of their philosophy. It has no proper name, and it was cube-shaped; had no bridge, quarters or engeneering sections. Each ship was collectively opperated by every single borg drone on board and it was also design to self-destruct when critically damaged, in order to prevent outsiders from studying their technology. The Battlestar Galactica
Both series (the original one, from 1978, and the contemporaneous remake) were named after it's major spaceship, the Battlestar Galactica. It is a fictional ship, and more than one were originally built by The Tweleve Colonies of Men, during their war against the Cylons. The Galactica represented the Caprica colony and it's most known under the command of Commander William Adama. The Millenium Falcom
It's not like the Millenium Falcom really needed any introduction... but let's do it anyway. It first appeared in the 4th episode, A New Hope. It was commanded by Han Solo and his friend (and first mate?) Chewbacca. Originally a YT-1300 model, it was tuned by Solo and became one of the most "living" ships of the movies. The Star Destroyers The Destroyers became famous as the ultimate Empire's vessels. They first appeared in the 4th episode, A New Hope, but remained nameless until The Empire Strikes Back. "At 1,600 meters long, Imperial-class Star Destroyers are armed with turbolasers, ion cannons and tractor beam projectors. They carry 72 TIE fighters, numerous ground forces, a prefabricated base for rapid deployment to planetary surfaces and a variety of support and landing craft." Comments
