1. The Dark Knight (2008)
Childish garbage posing as high art. Nolan fancies himself better than Bergman, but he's an absolute imbecile, tacking crime drama cliches on a story of men in tights. Nobody can act, either; the only thing impressive about Ledger's performance is how one man can't act so silly and still take himself seriously

3. Planet Terror (2007)
Acknowledging the fact that you're pure garbage doesn't change the fact that you're garbage. And no, it's not entertaining, it's mind numbingly stupid and boring

4. District 9 (2009)
No, this film is not allegorical. To be allegorical, you have to symbolize something. An apartheid cannot symbolize an apartheid . Either way, it's still a piece of shit that, despite what pseudo intellectual dickbags will try to tell you, is no more "deep" than your usual Michael Bay fare. If you truly desire depth and originality, you could just watch something by Kobayashi or Tarkovsky

I was honestly shocked to realize this is generally considered good. I find it repulsively bad

Cameron needs to venture into video games, it would suit him much better than cinema

9. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Personally, I find nothing more repulsive than Spielberg, barring Nolan of course. His shit has muddies the average middle class American's perception of cinema, to the point where it cannot be cleaned
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 3131  Average listal rating (1959 ratings) 7.9  IMDB Rating 8.3
10. Scarface (1983)
The death of Al Pacino's talent

People who added this item 1775  Average listal rating (1100 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 7.5
11. Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
Michael Moore is a master at making people think he's smart. He reinforces commonly held beliefs (Bush bad, socialised medicine good) for people who don't have enough faith in their own abilities to make their individual beliefs and need some jackass who looks like Peter Griffin to help. I don't disagree with a lot of what he sees, but that doesn't justify two hours of some smug jerk taking on easy targets. If you honestly find this hard hitting and controversial, you're a dumbass, plain and simple

People who added this item 3794  Average listal rating (2446 ratings) 8  IMDB Rating 8.2
12. Trainspotting (1996)
An unrealistic depiction of drug addiction with the worst dream sequence ever.

That part where the sex tape gets replaced with a soccer video is genius, though

People who added this item 3457  Average listal rating (2354 ratings) 8.3  IMDB Rating 8.6
13. Léon: The Professional (1994)
A pathetic attempt to turn Nabokov's brilliant novel into an action film that, and I say this without any hyperbole, fails on pretty much every level

People who added this item 6807  Average listal rating (4406 ratings) 8.3  IMDB Rating
14. Pulp Fiction (1994)
Boring as hell, not clever, and smug in the deepest sense of the word. Watch a real Godard film

16. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Are Thompson's books this stupid, or is it just Gilliam and his pretensions. "Brazil" is a masterpiece, but this is just nonsense

People who added this item 8213  Average listal rating (5134 ratings) 8  IMDB Rating 8.8
17. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the... (2001)
Pretty decent from a visual standpoint, and obviously the story has a lot potential, but the whole thing is handled in too cheesy a manner
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 2095  Average listal rating (1332 ratings) 7.8  IMDB Rating 8.1
18. Stand by Me (1986)
An unrealistic portrait of early adolescence with a cast of vile and contemptuous characters. I don't identify with them at all, I just want to tell them to shut the fuck up
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 1883  Average listal rating (1201 ratings) 7.4  IMDB Rating 7.8
19. Clerks (1994)
Dead pop culture, poo poo humor, and senseless vulgarity. I loved it when I was 13, but I'm 15 now and am much too deep and mature for this

People who added this item 6054  Average listal rating (4083 ratings) 7.5  IMDB Rating 8.3

This would be great if I was a kid. Sadly, I'm not, I'm an artsy teenager with an intellectual inferioty complex.

People who added this item 1486  Average listal rating (831 ratings) 8.2  IMDB Rating 8.4
23. Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
James Woods and Robert de Niro are both phenomenal in this one, but I prefer Leone with cowboys, not gangsters
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 2473  Average listal rating (1445 ratings) 7.8  IMDB Rating 7.9
24. Mulholland Drive (2001)
Entertaining, but enough with the fucking plot twists. The whole "surrealist film noir" thing works great for the first hour or so, but after a while, it grows tiresome and I'm left with a film that's part Hollywood nonsense, part ego trip of a possibly insane man
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 1686  Average listal rating (1151 ratings) 7.8  IMDB Rating 7.9
25. Drive (2011)
An effective atmosphere of surface coolness, but that's it. Behind it all lies cringe worthy dialogue, bad acting, and a bunch of awkward silences strung together.
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 3113  Average listal rating (2022 ratings) 8  IMDB Rating 8.4
26. Full Metal Jacket (1987)
By far Kubrick's weakest I've seen; it's not without it's good things (good cinematography and dialogue, and an awesome antagonist), but the shitty acting (this is excluding the drill sergeant, who was awesome) essentially kills most of the visceral impact it could have had by reducing potentially powerful scenes into absolute slop. Not to mention, Kubrick did everything he could with these themes in "Paths of Glory"; was another exploration of war's dehumanizing effects of war necessary?

People who added this item 1093  Average listal rating (684 ratings) 8.6  IMDB Rating 8.6
27. Sunset Boulevard (1950)
Too melodramatic and decadent, as well as very dated. The thing about it that sucks the most is how many missed oppurtunities there are. Still, they do reference how Erich von Sroheim's career was unjustly destroyed, so hey
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 4914  Average listal rating (3322 ratings) 8  IMDB Rating 8.8
28. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
A fun film, but also a really cheesy one. It's legacy as the first "blockbuster" seems overshadow it's quality as a film
m08221196's rating:

People who added this item 2340  Average listal rating (1472 ratings) 8.2  IMDB Rating 8.4
29. Oldboy (2003)
I was a bit hesitant to include this because there's plenty good about it. I mean, whenever I try to think of great fight scenes, this is the first movie that comes to mind. But simply nothing can make up for the utter mental retardation of it's twist ending. There's also loads of other contrivances and shit that could have been cut out. So, basically, there's some great stuff (namely that fight scene), but it's way too flawed to be great

People who added this item 4831  Average listal rating (3067 ratings) 8.7  IMDB Rating 9.2
30. The Godfather (1972)
Very good, yes, but WAY overrated. I just never got into the lore as much as others

I'll just say what everybody else is thinking- your list reeks of pretension and condescension. Why can't you respect other people's opinions without being a gigantic ass? You can call me stupid if you want to (and I know you will,) but I'm actually a fairly intelligent person who's sick of all the pretentious bulls*it in the movie world. You just call people names to inflate your ego and make you feel better about yourself.

That is all. Feel free to respond, or not.
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Aug 8 22:14
The pretentious and condescending one is he who tries to lecture another on internet etiquette and debase another person's ideals with childish cliches

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "all thr pretentious bullshit in the movie world". I'd really appreciate an explanation

Let me clarify, I love films. I even love art films. Some are my favorite movies are independent and foreign. On the other hand, I HATE it when watchers of 'fine films' think they're so f'ing superior to everyone else. 'Ooh, I've seen every Ingmar Bergman film eve made.' 'ooh, I've *never* seen a 'guilty pleasure' film. I would never stoop to such levels of mediocrity'. So that makes the other guy less of a person? Get over yourself.

It's not your taste I object to so much as the constant condescenion. Accroding to you, we are 'idiots' and 'peons' if we like movies that you don't. Haven't you ever met anyone with a different opinion than yourself? Someone you liked and respected? Can't you be somewhat respectful of other people's tastes?

I, for example, have Asperger's, a form of Autism, and struggle with seeing other people's perspectives on things that are important to me. But even I am not nearly as obtuse as you seem to be. Maybe you're cool in person. If so, my mistake.

"I'm 15 now and am much too deep and mature for this"

LMFAO. That explains everything.

Worst list on listal.

Oh, grow up, would you. You know what sarcasm is? Sorry my taste has evolved beyond "The Drak Knight" and "Pulp Fiction" and I've ventured into more challenging fare, but your idiocy is not going to make me accept banality

In a way, moviebuff15 is quite-right, although not fully!
Posted: 6 months, 2 weeks ago at Nov 5 8:47
I remember when I was younger and I listened to bad underground music to prove I was a "true fan" or "part of the culture" but you eventually grow out of it and develop your own taste... I know theres a few movies I love that probably would get a 5 or 6 rating on iMDB at best but I love em in less than a technical aspect, just find what you like man...
Posted: 6 months, 2 weeks ago at Nov 6 18:41
What!? What!? Oh dear... But it's your opinion..such a shame though.

ok it's not just you're really a witless moron whose unable to expresshimself beyond childish hyperbole

Also, capitalize the begins of you sentences and use commas (poor English and poor capitalization/punctuation are very different things)

Grammar nazi!

you're a stupid kid

better? or not MEIN FUHRER?
Posted: 4 months, 1 week ago at Jan 12 20:49
That's just the same thing you said before stated in less words

Either way, I've made no comment at all in regards to your grammar. English isn't your first language, that is very plain to tell, but regardless of how good or bad your grammar is, the content of what your saying is immature bullshit. I mean, you haven't justified one opinion of yours. Your validation for Mallik's filmography was that my mother was whore; gorw up dude
