3113 8 8.4 By far Kubrick's weakest I've seen; it's not without it's good things (good cinematography and dialogue, and an awesome antagonist), but the shitty acting (this is excluding the drill sergeant, who was awesome) essentially kills most of the visceral impact it could have had by reducing potentially powerful scenes into absolute slop. Not to mention, Kubrick did everything he could with these themes in "Paths of Glory"; was another exploration of war's dehumanizing effects of war necessary?

But simply nothing can make up for the utter mental retardation of it's twist ending. There's also loads of other contrivances and shit that could have been cut out. So, basically, there's some great stuff (namely that fight scene), but it's way too flawed to be great

It's not your taste I object to so much as the constant condescenion. Accroding to you, we are 'idiots' and 'peons' if we like movies that you don't. Haven't you ever met anyone with a different opinion than yourself? Someone you liked and respected? Can't you be somewhat respectful of other people's tastes?
