Though this film itself was not remade, the idea itself was recycled into theaters earlier this year, combined with the first two sequels to the series.. summing up what Jason Voorhees is to everyone; The Hockey Masked Killer. I didn't even bother to see this one, nor take part in it.

Makeup artist Tom Savini chose to remake this one is 1990, and for the most part did a good job at either sticking to the story or putting his own twists in the film that actually worked. This version did not set me off, what did it was the 3D one that came out about a year and a half ago, Starring Sid Haig. I know it probably was not his intention to destroy this movie with the ending from another world, but at least say something or protest the idea... i love ya man but you helped with the overkill process!

Bought it, heard some really dumb shit about it, didnt take it out of the shrink wrap, anyone wanna buy it? Tell me, what reason was there to take this name not only for a sequel which had nothing to do with it but to go ahead and actually re make the film; Starring Nick Cannon? In my opinion the best film out of the trilogy of the dead (go Joe Pilato!)

Fuck this. Hearing the confirmation that Robert "Freddy" Englund is not starring in this new chapter of the series; rather that the 1st film is in the works of a remake.. Fuck this.

Leaving Mari Almost dead in the remake certainly killed the film. WHY?!?!

without a doubt the best remake on this list. One of the few that actually showed the savagery put into one's self when in a situation calling for survival. I jumped quite a few times at different parts to this movie as well as appreciate the gore and time put into this. Guess there not ALL bad; with the exception of one of two :)

Films that are in no need of any sort of remake; yet they get one anyways. Ah, the search for more money never ends. Even films put out recently are being remade due to languange issues and the "inconvenience" of subtitles. The sad thing is I know it will Never End.

The Last House on the Left is sort of remake itself :)

Yes, the idea was taken from Bergman's A virgin Spring, but it wasn't exactly a remake. :) This is a great list though. I'm really tired of hollywood making all of these horrible remakes. I never waste my time with them. A few others that come to mind that I didn't see on the list are The Amityville Horror, The Omen, and Rosemary's Baby.

I try to avoid remakes, especially of movies I already know & love. That said, I did end up seeing the Dawn of the Dead remake & thought it was decent (still prefer the original though). And yeah, it never ends...Hollywood only cares about the bottom line. Sad.

Surprised to not see any of the foreign horror on this list...a lot of those have been remade too (and rarely very well).

I agree with your LHOTL comment. Mari dying in the original just made it so much more sickening.. which Craven intended.

I also agree that The Hills Have Eyes remake was probably the best one. I also didn't mind the remakes of The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween (The First.. the sequel kinda sucked)

Halloween 2 is the worst film I've ever seen, it makes me sick! Rob Zombie should have stopped on the first remake.

You forgot Dawn of the Dead; you'll be surprised that 2010 remake of The Crazies got more praise (while its predecesor was a critical and financial failure).
