Assessment for Best Picture: So-so

Reasons:
- I soured on this movie when I realized how much of it was contrived. He was separated from his wife for 7 years in the 1960s. He didn't make that Nobel acceptance speech.

It was a weak year for movies, though because I'm still not sure any movie deserved to be "best" in 2001.

This is about the Oscar for Best Picture from 1985 to Present. When I believe that they really selected the wrong flick, I indicate what picture I thought should have won.

The Hurt Locker wasn't about story, it was all about character.

No Country for Old Men was a great choice, but I think There Will Be Blood would have been even better choice.

I think you are focusing far too much on the entertainment aspect of the movies. Star Trek wasn't even nominated and there were several awesome films up for the nomination much better than Avatar and Star Trek (Up in the Air, An Education)

So far, all the debate has been about the last three years. Hopefully, the discussion will expand in time.

Not surprisingly, opinions on these things differ which is normal and healthy in a democracy.

Personally, I found There Will be Blood to be a cold, empty film. I kept hoping that it was going to get more interesting and more engaging but it was cold as stone right until the end. Sort of like a "classic" novel you had to read for English class for which you couldn't see the point.
