A list of fantastic performances overlooked by the often incompetent Academy Awards.

Alphabetical.

In some films, an actor or actress were nominated. However, for some of them I think more of the cast should/could have been nominated (Eg. Apocalypse Now and Magnolia). I'm not saying they made the wrong choice with the people they did choose, I just believe that there were other equally good performances in the film.

Some of these roles are very short. However, some actors and actresses have often been nominated for very short roles and so I have included good short performances too.

great list..you've got my vote...rob't shaw & john cazale should have been nominated for any movie they appeared in. also, it's especially hard to belive that henry fonda for 12 angry men, sidney poitier for in the heat of the night, and james whitmore for shawshank weren't nominated

Great list! It's truly a shame some of these didn't get nominated.
Posted: 1 year, 7 months ago at Oct 21 18:06
Great list. I agree that many of these actors should have been nominated for their respective roles, even for films that I didn't particularly enjoy (Reservoir Dogs for instance). However, I don't believe that Michael Keaton's performance in Beetlejuice required any talent. That film was merely two hours of cheap gimmicks and Keaton's performance didn't leave an impression. Besides that, I agree with many of your suggestions.

really great list. it's a fucking shame that those oscar bastards screwed such talented people over

Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands is practically the only thing I agree on. However, I disagree on Magnolia, Revolutionary Road, and ESPECIALLY NBK, all 3 to be rather faulty films.

I also have a suggestion: How about Little Shop of Horrors? The acting in that movie was perfect, and Rick Moranis' portrayal of Seymour is some of the best acting I've ever seen out of him in his career.
Posted: 2 months, 3 weeks ago at Feb 21 0:46
Emily J, this list isn't about the quality of the films, it's about the quality of the performances. I personally loved Magnolia, Natural Born Killers and Revolutionary Road anyway but even if I didn't, the performances I've listed would be on this list regardless because they were good examples of acting.

I haven't seen the eighties Little Shop of Horrors, only the 1960 one so I won't be adding that any time soon. Once I see it, I will evaluate whether or not to include Moranis. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great list! Especially Christian Bale in American Psycho and Al Pacino in Scarface! But all your choices are good.
