Who?
Captain Ahab, the captain of the Pequod. Despite his origins (he's a Quaker) he was consummed by anger and became obsessed with the idea of killing the whale Moby Dick. Why? Mody Dick mutilated him. Since then, Ahab seeks revenge. "... to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee." Mari's rating:

Antoine, a young french male. Throught the whole book, he tries different methods of dumbing himself - a true obsession about it! Why? He gets tired of his profound thoughts towards everything, due to his intelligence. Mari's rating:

Gollum, the creepy old creature who seems to be always talking to himself. Come on, you guys know him! He became obsessed with The One Ring, and even dies for it Why? When he was a young and fresh creature similar to the hobbits, Gollum found The One into a river. He became attached and charmed by it's power. Actually, he's creeply addicted to it! Mari's rating:

Fëanor and his seven sons. Fëanor was an elven craftsmith. He was able to capture the Two Threes' light and made tree woderful jewels, called The Silmarils. The Valar demanded them for themselves, but he refused. He later made his offspring join him on an oath to keep and protect the Silmarils at any cost. Why? The jewels were so marvelous that Fëanor could not bare the idea of losing it. An evil Valar took this opportunity and convinced him that someone would steal it from him, and used his pride to raise Fëanor against his own kind. After his death, his offspring carried the oath, and their whole life became a neverending quest. Mari's rating:

The young man named Dorian Grey. In his desire to keep is beauty and youth, he cries out in despair, wishing that he could "change places" with his painted picture. Why? After his meeting with a certain Lord Henry, who suggested the only things worth pursuing in life are beauty and fulfilment of the senses, he realises that someday all his charm will fade. Mari's rating:

The former nurse Annie Wilkes. She's completely obsessed with the fictional book series surrounding a character named Misery. The perfect opportunity for her crazyness to show up is when she rescues the series author, Paul Sheldon, from his crashed car. Why? Well, there's not quite a reason - she's just addicted to it! Who?
Roland, the last surviving gunslinger, lives in a quest for The Dark Tower, basically his first reason for keep himself alive above all odds. Why? There's no way to tell a why, without ruining the story for you. So... sorry guys. Who?
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who was born without a personnal odour, but with a very high capacity of sense and distinguish scents. He became obsessed with find the perfect fragrance, wich lead him to commit several murders. Why? For other people, his lack of odour was a truly disturbing feature. His search for a perfect scent was all about seeking a way to make him more "normal". Mari's rating:

It's far beyond love or adoration... it's pure obsession! Some of my favorite books characters who became famous by their obsessions towards something or someone.
