I'm still yet to play most of the resident evil series, but I can say that the rest are awesome

If you're still looking for a good nightmare, might I suggest a game on the Wii called Cursed Mountain. I recently beat it and it really got to me.

The object of the game is survival. The setting is a zombie apocalypse. It counts in my book. =P

Me too but still, darn. Good thing I had a copy of Twisted Metal Black to keep me occupied, otherwise I might have finished that thing too.
