Average listal rating (4 ratings) 2.8
1. Brooke Hogan
Famous by association with: Hulk Hogan

Media cross-over! Her pops is a world-famous wrestler who brought entertainment and inspiration to fans everywhere. How on Earth that guarantees his daughter a singing career, I'll never know. Her father eventually orchestrated the show Hogan Knows Best to further promote her musical talent and now she's a household name.

2. Lisa Marie Presley
Famous by association with: Elvis Presley

She is the daughter of Elvis Presley. I bet more people buy her music by mistake than they ever would by choice.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (2 ratings) 4.5
3. Jakob Dylan
Famous by association with: Bob Dylan

Son of one of the most legendary singer-songwriters of all time, Jakob has a pretty hard act to follow. You have to wonder if he'd have had a recording contract if it wasn't for the omnipresence of his surname.

Average listal rating (5 ratings) 3.4
4. D-12
Famous by association with: Eminem

D-12 intended to form a super group with the 12 best rappers in Detroit. Sadly, they couldn't find 12 rappers good enough and settled with 6 members, each with a second personality. Little did they know, they had, infact, only found one decent rapper and they rode his coat tails to fame.

Average listal rating (3 ratings) 2.7
5. Proof
Famous by association with: D-12

Proof was best mates with Eminem, so he was guaranteed a recording contract one the bottle blonde lyricist made it big. Proof is now dead, but allegations that his death was due to being a diabolical affront to the music industry are unfounded.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (3 ratings) 2.7
6. Bizarre
Famous by association with: D-12

Bizarre got a recording contract because he is fat and has a 'controversial topic' random word generator. Rape LOL, Murder LOL, Paedophilia LOL. Even hardened rap fans must've been embarrassed by this disgrace to the genre.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (6 ratings) 4.5
7. Obie Trice
Famous by association with: D-12

Obie met Proof and then Bizarre and then Eminem, who signed him to Shady records in 2000. Has such memorable hits as... and... err, well anyway, I'm sure his innate rapping talent is what granted him the chance to hit the big time.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (81 ratings) 4.6
8. 50 Cent
Famous by association with: Eminem

50 Cent was a drug dealing crack addict before he met Eminem. Now he is a multi-million selling artist who has a hard past and a couple of bullet scars to boast about. 50 Cent is so good at selling records that the outrageous beefs and retirement threats that emerge whenever he releases a new album are purely coincidental.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (7 ratings) 3.9
9. G-Unit
Famous by association with: 50 Cent

Fifty's own version of D-12, only more interested with making money. Converted from a rap group to a brand name and now ship out clothes and whatever, probably because their CDs don't generate enough income. Or maybe because every rapper lives to make outrageous sums of money, by whatever means necessary.

10. Lloyd Banks
Famous by association with: G-Unit

Hahahahahahahahahaha
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (4 ratings) 1.5
11. Tony Yayo
Famous by association with: G-Unit

Tony Yayo got famous because of Eminem and 50 Cent's 'Free Yayo' campaign. Apparently they don't think jail time is a reasonable punishment for multiple weapons charges, prostitution and bail jumping offences. Then Yayo did nothing whilst in prison and walked out to huge popularity and acclaim. What a joke.

12. Kevin Drew
Famous by association with: Broken Social Scene

Undoubtedly a talented musician in his own right, he recently decided to go solo. That's not too bad, only his solo album plastered the name of his previous band all over the cover. Too cheeky for my liking.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (10 ratings) 2.3
13. Kelly Osbourne
Famous by association with: Ozzy Osbourne

She's certainly monstrous enough to be the daughter of The Prince of Darkness, but sadly no creative talent was present in her father's half of the conception package. That doesn't matter though, we'll give her an album deal and get her to sing Madonna covers.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (5 ratings) 6
14. Damian Marley
Famous by association with: Bob Marley

Tragedy struck when Bob Marley departed the world. But he left a fair few sons around to carry the reggae torch after his death. Damian was very young when his dad died, but he was already performing at 13 and as of last year had released three albums. Let's be honest though, you'd only ever look him up because of the surname.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (2 ratings) 3
15. Zak Starkey
Famous by association with: Ringo Starr

Zak is Ringo's son. Conveniently, he plays the drums, which has led to him being drafted in as an auxiliary drummer for a number of bands. He has toured with The Who, and Oasis - who constantly masturbate over their idols The Beatles. A coincidence I'm sure.
Grand Assault's rating:

Average listal rating (15 ratings) 4.9
16. Enrique Iglesias
Famous by association with: Julio Iglesias

His dad has shifted over 300 million albums, so now Enrique's music career is a clone of his old man's. Admittedly he got signed whilst keeping his surname a secret, but then switched back to 'Iglesias' as soon as his début album hit the shops. Now he's regarded as a suave and romantic Spanish gentleman... just like his dad!

do you think the Wu-Tang Clan artists fall into this category? i wouldn't think so myself, due to the fact that their business model was premeditated. half of these people i've never heard of, so they cant have done that well.

I think Wu-Tang got successful off of their own steam, and they certainly sold enough records once they got to the top. The fact that these people never succeeded is even more damning. They were exploited purely for their celebrity factor and then hung out to dry. Except for the rappers, who are still active with delusions of talent.

What about Haylie Duff, Hilary Duff's sister? I don't think she'd have much of a career if it wasn't for her sister.

I looked her up, she definitely counts... but she's not even on the listal musician database!

Cool Idea for List.
How about...
Mase - famous by association with BIG and Puff Daddy
Ashlee Simpson - famous by association with her sister, Jessica
Miley Cyrus - Billy Ray Cyrus - She has now become much more popular than he ever became; but she sure got a lot of help from him.
Jeff Buckley - son of Tim Buckley
Natalie Cole - Nat King Cole
Arlo Guthrie - Son of Woody Guthrie
Hank Williams Jr - Son of Hank Williams
Hank Williams III - Son of Hank Williams, Jr
Nona Gaye - Daughter of Marvin Gaye
Julian Lennon - Son of John Lennon
Sean Lennon - Son of John Lennon
Yoko Ono - Wife of John Lennon
Nancy Sinatra - Daughter of Frank Sinatra
Rufus Wainwright - Son of Louden Wainwright
Martha Wainwright - Daughter of Louden Wainwright & Sister to Rufus
Katie Cassidy - David Cassidy
Crosby Loggins and the Light - Crosby is son to Kenny Loggins
Carnie Wilson - Daughter of Brian Wilson
Elvis Costello - son of Ross McManus - This is a close one. I like Costello.
Norah Jones - Daughter of Ravi Shankar - But she's pretty damn good on her own.
Liza Minelli - Daughter of Judy Garland - Pretty close one here, too.

What about Lilly Allen? Daughter of actor and musician Keith Allen (I mean who doesn't know his football anthem ‘Vindaloo’) and film producer Alison Owen.

Stehako - being son or daughter of someone famous doesn't mean being talentless. And little bit of help doesn't always mean nepotism. Some of those you mentioned are really great artists. Of course, Miley Cyrus should be on the list.

Description

Nepotism is the showing of favouritism toward relatives and friends, based upon that relationship, rather than on an objective evaluation of ability, meritocracy or suitability.

In other words, a bunch of musicians of mediocre (or worse) talent who wouldn't have had a hope in hell of making it big in the music industry if it hadn't been for a famous parent or friend giving them a helping hand.
