I have to watch Point Break again.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 9 16:43
Yes I should watch it again too. I don't remember much of that movie, but I know it was good.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 9 16:56
Yes, it was definitely good, and I wonder now whether seven stars is enough.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 9 17:19
Unfortunately here on listal we can give only 5 stars ;-)
7 points is OK for me at the moment.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 9 17:41
On the Polish side www.filmweb.pl, which I'm also using is the system of 10 stars. Here is the scale of 1 to 10 too, so I got used to that every point I call a star :)

I would prefer a decimal point system. No webside offers it. At least half points would be cool.

in the film industry there's only 7 rating rank 1-Masterpiece 2-Remarquable 3-Very Good 4-Good 5-Average 6-Mediocre 7-bad. but in the one i've created 6 years ago there's 14 rank 1.0=Masterpiece 1.5=Extraordinary 2.0=Exceptional 2.5=Remarquable 3.0=Magnificent 3.5=Very Good 4.0=Good 4.5=Acceptable 5.0=Average 5.5=Very Average 6.0=Mediocre 6.5=Bad 7.0=Very Bad. it's more easy to judge a movie with my systeme. a exemple Braveheart (1995) and The Fog (1980) are both rated 4=Good by the film industry but in my evaluation Braveheart is better then The Fog for several reason that's why Braveheart is rated 3.5=Very Good instead of 4 in my rating systeme and The Fog is rated 4=Good exactly the same as the film industry ratings. the film industry and listal should transformed their rating systeme to make it easier and more precise for the movie viewers. : )

For me your rating system would be a little bit complicated, e.g. I don't see a big difference between Extraordinary, Exceptional, Remarquable or Magnificent or between Acceptable, Average, Very Average and Mediocre. ;-) You must have your very personal definition for every word.

For me half points on a scale from 1 to 10 would be ok. It's often that I think about a movie, e.g. it's not a 7 but also not an 8, so 7.5 would be perfect...
Everyone has it's own definitions and that makes it difficult to compare ratings between users.

Edit:
In fact I don't need 10 points, my scale starts with 3 or 4, so it would be also 7 points like you use, but that makes it difficult to translate it to other scales.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 9 19:56
I have to say that overall, I rarely use ratings 2,3,4. Five stars means to me that the movie is average, further evaluations show the scale how much I loved it. I have a problem with the assessments below 5, to show how much I didn't like. It would suffice me two grades below average - weak and totally wrong.
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 10 15:58
you may not see the difference but it's very different when you work in the film industry, there's a lot of movie critic's who use those kind of rating system to evaluate the movie's they judge to be sure if their right in the final result. i'm surprise that you don't see the difference between Extraordinary (out of this world),Exceptionnal (a part of the best), Remarquable (shining among others) & Magnificent (beautiful one).
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 10 16:19
Maybe I don't see the subtle differences of these words, because I'm not a native English speaker. They sound like synonyms. In fact in my language (German) the words extraordinary and exceptional mean the same (außergewöhnlich).

You are free to use your system, I don't mind ;-)
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 16 21:26
ok ! now i understand why : ) in some way they are all a synonyms of great (lol) but the difference it's only a tiny degree up but over all it means good. i used my system for many years and it help me a lot. :)
Posted: 4 years, 1 month ago at Nov 16 22:09
That's why I prefer not to translate points into words. Words cannot always describe properly a feeling. Over the years I associated my experienced feelings with points. Of course it's not an academic/scientific system and not suitable for everyone. When you use one system for years then it's difficult to adapt to another (better) system.

Are you kidding? Just kidding. But Oliver Stone's JFK is a favorite of mine and many critics. First, it is technically proficient. The opening montage should be in a textbook of film. Many of my friends dismiss Stone because of his politics. They will not watch his movies. This is a mistake.
Posted: 3 years, 11 months ago at Dec 31 19:28
I will rewatch JFK definitely, especially because I'm a fan of Kevin Costner. The last time I watched that movie was sooo long ago.
