From their foundation, Valve has been one of the major indie developers that have been making absolutely solid and wonderful games to play from the great engrossing story of the Half-Life series, cool new puzzle concept of Portal, and Co-Op/team gameplay of Left 4 Dead or Team Fortress 2 are must plays for anyone who enjoy gaming.

While technically a part of Konami since 1987, Kojima Productions is the development house started by Hideo Kojima in 2005 in order to focus solely on developing games and are responsible for one of my favorite game series, the Metal Gear series, and other critically acclaimed games like Zone of the Enders and Boktai series.

Self proclaimed "The last of the bedroom programmers", Introversion Software are a small group but their games have become cult classics in the PC gaming world and still are loved by fans and supported by the mod community.

The name Square-Enix is synonymous with Japanese RPG's from the Dragon Quest franchise, Star Ocean series, Kingdom Hearts series, and of course the Final Fantasy franchise that I still find enjoyable.

Some would say that Blizzard or Westwood/EA are the real-time strategy experts but in my mind Relic are better. With Homeworld, Warhammer, and Company of Heroes series bringing great scenarios and game play different to most other RTS's.
