To be quite honest, I haven't read that many books. But I'm really interested in checking out some more. I would greatly appreciate it if someone recommended some books!
I will have to get back to you on recommendations. What kind of stuff are you into besides horror? You have three great ones on the list, I would recommend Edgar Allan Poe, Ambrose Bierce, H.G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Turn of the Screw is great as well. A lot of authors dive into horror every now and again. A great way of finding authors is by getting anthologies with various authors, I've found a few great ones that way. Best New Horror is a great series for that. And lastly you should read 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, it's fucking great, and Joe just happens to be Stephen King's son.
As one Lovecraft fan to another, you should check out Brian Lumley, who was one of his 'disciples', so to speak. His Titus Crow series is excellent and set in the world of the Lovecraft Mythos. The Burrowers Beneath
The Transition of Titus Crow
The Clock of Dreams
Spawn of the Winds
In the Moons of Borea
Elysia
There's also a collection of short stories called The Compleat Crow. And his other Lovecraftian short stories are collected in Haggopean and Other Stories (Best Mythos Tales) and The Whisperer and Other Voices.
He also has an excellent vampire series that has touches of Lovecraft called the Necroscope series!
