You MUST open a patisserie shop on line !!!!!!

@Anautix: I don't know if you can translate literally. 'Babka' is the name of a popular Polish cake. Most likely the name comes from the fact that the traditional Babka cake is shaped like a skirt, which formerly wore village women.
'Babka', 'Baba' are another form of the word 'woman' in Polish

But I'm not sure :D
Posted: 5 years ago at Oct 7 20:32
Yes, the cake on that pic is truly looking like a skirt. When reading 'Babka' I thought of an old woman, because that is what it means in Russian. There are many similarities between Polish and Russian, but I also learned that the words not always mean the same even if they are sounding very similar.

The Babka cake reminds me of the German Sandkuchen which has many different variations, or the Marmorkuchen.

I always thought like you, that the name 'Babka' comes from the Polish 'Babka z piasku' which in English is probably the 'mud pie'.
Posted: 5 years ago at Oct 8 9:54
After some research in the internet I can say that a 'Sandkuchen' is not a 'mud pie'. A Sandkuchen has no chocolate and is quite dry. Looking on the pictures of mud pies they seem to be very creamy with much chocolate. There is only a German article about the Sandkuchen in wikipedia, so I don't know how to translate it correctly, but literally it's a sand pie.

Here some more information about the Sandkuchen and its variations (use google translate):

I was thinking literally about the origin of the name. And I meant about mud pie that make children on the beach with sand.

It looks like Polish 'Babka piaskowa' (literally: Sand Babka)
Posted: 5 years ago at Oct 8 10:06
Ok so it's a Babka piaskowa :-) Then maybe your Babka is a Marmorkuchen (Sandkuchen with 1/3 chocolate).
Posted: 5 years ago at Oct 8 10:08
We often call babka with a layer of cocoa 'zebra' :)

Yeah... I would have left him this rocket, but guests came for the cake. I don't know if he will have good memories of that day. I hope he forgets.

Wow these cakes look amazing! What do you use to decorate the themed ones? Bought Fondant or do you make it yourself? (out of marshmallows or something like that)
Posted: 1 year, 11 months ago at Oct 25 11:11
