1. Batman: Year One - David Mazzucchelli,Frank Miller_II
Story: This covers the beginnings of Batman after Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City and it is a really solid story at that; clever dialogue & a tonne of action.

Artwork: The artwork is quite dark but still fantastic, it really compliments the story.

2. Batman: The Killing Joke - Alan Moore_III,Brian Bolland
Story: Possibly one of my favourite Joker stories to date; if not my very favourite. Allan Moore writes a very smart and funny & of course twisted take of the Joker.

Artwork: Probably my most favourite artwork in a Batman issue; Brian Bolland does a real great job, with really colourful drawings. I also do like the Black & White sections of the Jokers past.

3. Batman: The Long Halloween - Tim Sale,Jeph Loeb
Story:Whilst a pretty good mystery with a great twist ending, Batman doesn't really do a great deal of detective work, but still its a very interesting story.

Artwork: Beautiful, Tim Sale again draws some very colourful Batman characters and this is some of his finest work.

4. Batman: A Death in the Family - Jim Aparo,Mike DeCarlo,Jim Starlin
Alot of people really hate on this comic as been over-rated and the art been too campy and all that, but I really like the story and I was this close to crying when I saw Batman have Robin die, even though its on the front cover.
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 15  Average listal rating (7 ratings) 8
5. Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying - George Perez,M. Wolfman
Didn't like it quite as much as A Death in the Family; but it still was very good and I would definately reccomend it as a Batman story worth reading.

People who added this item 35  Average listal rating (18 ratings) 8.6
7. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Klaus Janson,Frank Miller_II
Dav1d's rating:

Definately an under-rated comic, when I first read it; I wasn't expecting a great deal, but after reading it; it was just absolutely excellent, great story.

People who added this item 21  Average listal rating (7 ratings) 8.6
10. Batman: Knightfall Part One: Broken Bat - DC Comics
A brilliantly drawn and written graphic novel, I really feel for Bruce Wayne at the end, I won't spoil anything, but I do reccomend it highly as one of the better Batman stories.

11. Batman Knightfall TP Part 02 Who Rules The N... - Alan Grant,Chuck Dixon,Doug Moench
I've read it twice now and Azrael is one bad mother; I love the artwork and think Bane is a fantastic villian
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 14  Average listal rating (2 ratings) 9.5
12. Batman No Mans Land TP Vol 01: Vol 1 - Devin Grayson,Bob Gale
I thought at first that the story sounded silly, by reading the plot of it, but once I read the actual book, I really enjoyed it and the artwork was real decent.

16. Absolute Batman: Hush - Jim Lee_II,Jeph Loeb
Honestly, I am not a big fan of Hush.
There are parts I like, parts I dislike.
To begin, I like the introduction and story behind the new villian Hush, but the pace of the story and just the cramming of Batmans main villians into it disappointed me, because I wanted to see more of Hush himself.

I was suprised at how much that I really liked it after reading it, because I hadn't heard many people talk about it. But really its suprisingly good.

19. Batman: Faces (Legends of the Dark Knight) - Matt Wagner
A fair story, Wagner does another good job; he is probably amongst my favourite Batman writers and this story whilst not overly fantastic, was quite well done, I also love his art work.

22. Batman: Tales of the Demon - DC Comics

Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 19  Average listal rating (11 ratings) 8.3
23. Batman: The Man Who Laughs - Ed Brubaker, Doug Mahnke
This book goes really well with the Killing Joke, but on its own it is still a very good story, its one of my personal favourite Joker tales.
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 4  Average listal rating (3 ratings) 8
24. Batman: Prey - DC Comics
Alot of people rave about this one; but I personally think whilst its good..it doesn't deserve as much praise at it gets, but don't get me wrong; it is still well worth a read.

29. Batman: The Cult - Bill Wray,Berni Wrightson,Jim Starlin
Another fantastic story, without been too over the top.
Its good to see another side of Batman and I felt that it is one of Batmans under-rated Graphic Novels, so do check it out.

30. Batman and the Mad Monk - Matt Wagner
A real dark story for Batman, but very well written again by Mr Wagner, I suggest you pick it and Batman and the Monster Men up, if you've not read either

32. Batman: Gothic - Grant Morrison, Klaus Janson
Gothic is perhaps my favourite Grant Morrison novel, least till this date, the story is dark and violent and Batman is bad as ever without been too over the top.
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 5  Average listal rating (2 ratings) 8
33. Batman: Going Sane - J.M. Dematteis
If you're big fan of the Batman/Joker stories, then this is one you definately have to read, the Joker is as mad as ever and Batman is pretty well written to.

People who added this item 3  Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6
38. Batman: Death and the Maidens - Greg Rucka,Klaus Janson
I enjoyed 70% of the story; loved the artwork, but it just finished a little weak for me.
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 4  Average listal rating (3 ratings) 8.3
39. Arkham Asylum Living Hell TP - Dan Slott
I went in reading this one expecting it to be ordinary, but asides from the end (not the very end) it was quite good and well worth a read and good to see one of Batmans non-main villians get a story, though I have to say for me there probably wasn't enough Batman in it.

40. Batman: Vengeance Of Bane #1 - Chuck Dixon

People who added this item 1  Average listal rating (1 ratings) 7
41. Batman Vengeance of Bane II: The Redemption ... - Chuck Dixon
I thought it was really good through-out; but again not a very strong ending, I really like Bane as well and find him an under used villian
Dav1d's rating:

People who added this item 1  Average listal rating (1 ratings) 8
42. Batman: Library of Souls! - Peter Milligan
A real interesting story; that I highly reccomend. It has great artwork and an amusing villian.

43. Batman: Black & White, Vol. 1 - Frank Miller_II,Neil Gaiman

44. All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder - Frank Miller_II
Honestly, hated it; if anything could save it, its that the artwork is terrfic, but the writing was just so crude and Batman to me acted like a complete moron. Its hard to think that this was the same Frank Miller that gave us Year One.
Dav1d's rating:

Basically all the comics/graphic novels I own of Batman, this list will be constanly updated as I increase my collection slowly but surely.

Another excellent list! Embarrassingly, I have only read: Batman: The Killing Joke, Batman: Dark Victory, and Batman:The Long Halloween. And yes I do consider myself a comicbook fan.
