You're right, "Inglourious Basterds" is overrated in some ways, which is why I stated "Deeply flawed..." up top. But the floor boards scene toward the beginning with Cristopher Waltz is legendary, and there's a number of other reasons that I found it worth watching.
Wait a sec, isn't that movie on your top 10 list for that year too? I guess maybe it's my star rating that you're arguing, but please know I don't put a whole lot of stock in my own star ratings.
They're a rough guide, and ideally should represent my feelings for a film, but often they're given with out a whole ton of thought, depending on where I come across a film on this site, and how charitable or negative I'm feeling at the moment. Rating films after the fact is kinda tricky to me that way, and the only time I feel my star rating is at all reliable is if it's done immediately after seeing a film...
Even then things come into play like judging a film within the context of its desired audience, its genre, and sundry other variables.
Looking at it now, 4.5 maybe seems a bit high. But no matter what my mood I don't think I'd rate it below a 4.
Excellent list, very similar to mine (and when it's not the ratings are similar to mine). Nice to see Invention of Lying on this list...it surprised me how good it was.
Oooh, I need to pick up Fantastic Mr. Fox as soon as I can. I haven't been a fan of Wes Anderson's films, but there are many who have said this one was a vast improvement on the rest of his material. Zombieland is heaps of fun, and I really wanted to give it more than an honorary mention.
The debate over Adventureland always gets me really fired up, and I get especially angry when I hear people say "Eh, wasn't as funny as I hoped." It's not a comedy - yes, the ads are to blame for the expectation, but still, it's not a comedy. I also have a strong suspicion that a lot of people's dislike of the movie comes from two unfounded notions about the two main actors. A lot of people out there have claimed that Jesse Eisenberg is just aping Michael Cera, which is COMPLETELY false (they don't even look alike, and Eisenberg is a much better actor). But I think that notion was finally disproven in 2010 with The Social Network. The other problem is people's unnecessarily intense hatred towards Kristen Stewart because of her involvement with the Twilight movies. Who cares? The Twilight movies have nothing to do with other (better) projects that she may decide to get involved with (like Adventureland). How many Oscar-winning actors have been in awful movies yet haven't lost any of their prestige? Anyway, the point is, I think Adventureland is heavily underrated. And people can go around continuing to say it's nothing special or whatever, but that won't stop me from continuing to treasure it dearly and to argue the contrary, lol.
Don't forger to check my list :

I need to watch Mary & Max.
