Don't watch it if you're in the mood for a 'pick me up'. It's quite a downer, but a good film, smart script, and strong, strong performances.
Kill Bill 2 is Tarantino's second best film after 'Pulp Fiction' in my book. I see lots of homage to great Western film-makers like John Ford and Sergio Leone going on in it.
Probably Kurosawa too, but I haven't seen enough of his stuff to know.
Tarantino's emphatic love for cinema comes out in his films, more so than most any other director working today. He's such a tried and true cinephile, and seems to work with an enthusiasm that I really enjoy.
And as far as 'Miracle' goes, well I'm a hockey nut. I spent the first 25 years of my life in Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota and Herb Brooks is considered a god there among hockey fans. And almost half of the hockey players on the roster skated for the University of Minnesota, located in Minneapolis. And while I wasn't alive in 1980, I can't think of a greater sports story that meant as much to U.S. citizens at the time.
Plus it has brought me to silent tears all 7 times I've watched it.
So yeah, not a film I would ever expect to be on many peoples' favorite/best lists but it'll land on mine every time!
VERY pleased to see Kill Bill Vol. 2 at #1 here. And of the ones here I've seen, most made my list too for that year. Didn't care much for Anchorman and refuse to watch Dodgeball due to my general avoidance of all things that prominently feature the name Ben Stiller.
Only one of your unseens I've watched is House of Flying Daggers, which was well done technically but very predictable I felt. Overrated IMO.
I have your n.1 on DVD so I should watch it pretty soon.
I really can't stand Kill Bill 2. What a bore... Please tell me why this movie is so good ?
Miracle was better than Kill Bill (not very difficult...) but you gave a full five stars rating... It's nice little movie but is it that great ?
