Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary - Year 2011
24.12. 2011
How "nice" film to watch on Christmas Eve. Joe Dante's original "Piranha" wasn't exactly a masterpiece either but at least that one is somehow enjoyable to watch, unlike this intentional B movie garbage. Alexandre Aja, who seems to be one of the most unimaginative directors currently, doesn't have any new ideas but he just keeps repeating gross special effects which gets really old fast. Rarely you see this realistic kids films these days anymore in the true sense of the word. "Bridge to Terabithia" tells about genuine friendship between a boy and a girl. It doesn't sound that special, but when you think about it, you see that this is a subject that is hardly ever explored in conventional commercial films. Despite some misleading trailers, this is not a fantasy film, but almost its complete opposite: it is basically a movie about real life that can both be charming and painful. Mustanaamio7's rating:

Along with "The Exorcist" and "To Live and Die in L.A.", "The French Connection" is one of William Friedkin's masterpieces. It is based on true events but this fact doesn't make the movie any less exciting. Actually, all the intense action scenes, like the famous chase scene, are in fact more impressive when you know that these things have really happened. In the plot two tough detectives "Popeye" Doyle and Buddy Russo are searching for a big group of drug dealers. One of the criminals tries to murder Doyle by shooting him with a sniper rifle, but he fails. This is how the challenging chase begins. This is one of the most genuinely realistic American crime films ever made. In the scene where a criminal tries to kill Doyle, an innocent woman is shot to death in the front of her baby. Rarely things like these are shown in a movie, even though this kind of stuff is common in real life. The main characters also use questionable methods when they are searching for the criminals, so classifying them as some kind of heroes would be problematic. Mustanaamio7's rating:

"Ultraviolet" belongs to the same low level as such flop films like "Catwoman" and "Spider-Man 3". This is a horribly emotionless movie with completely emotionless and bland characters. Almost everything that happens in the story is so incredibly corny or absurd that a poor viewer can no nothing but only wonder what in the world is going on. The worst thing is that there are actually people who thought that this kind of a script could make a good movie. It scares me. Mustanaamio7's rating:

Mikäs kagemushassa mättää? Mielestäni pienistä puutteista huolimatta leffa on lähes kaikin tavoin mestariteos.

Over 600?!?!?!?!?! what?! How would a human being be able to achieve such a CRAZY feat?! Are some of, or most of them short films?
