The Cinephile's Film Journal: 2011

A sub-par drama that was saved by the great Adam Scott. The interesting passenger view was enjoyable as well. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/2/11
Not horrible, and not great. Just great fight scenes combined with average acting and a not so good story. The Cinephile's rating:

Not a whole lot different than Seagal's other new material, but a pretty decent watch. I can tolerate his films, and am one of the few people who enjoy watching him on screen. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/4-5/11
One of Seagal's better movies, while not necessarily a "good" one, still watchable. He plays a former Russian gangster, which I thought was a relatively cool role for him. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/5/11
I actually prefer Seagal's newer, more cliche stuff over this movie. The acting is just o.k, and the fight choreography is actually pretty disappointing. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/6/11
Again, nothing new going on here. Just a low budget, Run of the mill Seagal film, and relatively enjoyable. However, should I have expected much different? The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/7/11
A very interesting film that really makes you think. The plot seems harmless and basic at first, but then it really starts rolling. This is definitely worth another watch, and maybe even a DVD purchase. The Cinephile's rating:
Completed on 1/8/11
I love Michael Cera all the time, but this is one of his forgettable films. It was solid but I don't think I'll be watching it again. The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/8/11
An extremely "by the books" comedy, but still much better and funnier then I had originally remembered, and a film to be owned. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/9/11
Not a horrible movie, had some pretty good fight choreography, but the whole plot was by the numbers, and rushed far too much. Not to mention it had sub-par acting. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/10/11
An enjoyable fantasy flick, mixed in with some pretty solid comedy. I wouldn't highly recommend it, unless you're looking to have some fun with not much substance. The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/11/11
The first time I saw this it didn't really scare me. Probably because I was a young kid, and didn't really understand what the heck was going on. However, after recently giving a re-watch, it actually gave me quite a few scares. It's a very well made mockumentary filled with tons of thrills, and a very realistic way of portraying them. The Cinephile's rating:
Completed on 1/12/11
An enjoyable action thriller, but not many new elements mixed in. Not to mention the fighting sequences are pretty dang good. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/14/11
Much better than the critics are saying. having said that, it's not Vaughn's best work, but the dark comedy makes it worth watching, and I'm a huge Kevin James fan, so that helped. The Cinephile's rating:
Completed on 1/14/11
One of the better made martial arts films, and overlooked by a lot of viewers. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/15/11
Easily the worst film in the series, but still fun to watch. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/18-19/11
An average intertwining character story, but nothing special here. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/19-20/11
One of Nic Cage's less enjoyed movies, but it has it's positive aspects, like the story, it was pretty enthralling. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/20-21/11
Very enjoyable little rom-com with some really good chemistry between the two main leads. Better than most will say. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/24-25/11
Another solid movie that had me thinking about whether the pro critics are really that dependable. I agree, it's a very messy comedy and it's pretty silly. But put all belief aside and enjoy it for what it is. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/25-26/11
I love low budget indie films, and this one was actually pretty decent, with some very enjoyable black humor. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/26/11
It seems like movies like this are made on a daily basis, as if film-makers are just giving up and looking for quick sums of cash. Nothing new here, just a predictable "held captive" piece of drab. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/30-31/11
I was interested in this purely because of Nicolas Cage's presence, but he was only on screen for maybe a minute. I did enjoy James Franco, but the movie was just too blah blah for me. The Cinephile's rating:

A movie with basically nothing new, and you can pretty much tell exactly how it'll end towards the middle of the film. Having said that, it was relatively enjoyable, but I really wish Karl Urban would have gotten more screen time. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 2/2-3/11
Not bad, but nowhere near what I'd hoped for. Woody Harrelson was pretty solid, but the movie really wasn't going anywhere. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 2/3/11
Yes, this movie was very fun to watch....but technically speaking, is was as by-the-books as a film can be. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 2/7/11
You're normal torture/revenge flick, just at a different angle. I was very interested for a good chunk of the duration, then it just got, well, too basic. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 2/7/11
One of the most surprisingly good films I've seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, this is no masterpiece, but I loved it. It's similar to the hills have eyes, where a group of people become stranded, etc. So, if your into stuff like that, this will come as a good surprise. Definitely a must buy (for me at least). The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 2/8-9/11
The worst boxing movie that I personally have seen. I've seen mma films that were worse, but boxing wise, AH! not a good flick in the least bit. Well, maybe the main characters were watchable, but other than that, no sir! The Cinephile's rating:

A pretty inventive and enjoyable picture, and I thought Ryan Reynolds was really good. It just seemed too general to be a great movie. The Cinephile's rating:
3rd time watching this. Watched on 3/9/11
Pure unadulterated action packed fun! put all realism aside and buckle up! The Cinephile's rating:
4th time watching this. Watched on 3/9/11
My second favorite Rambo film, next to the original of course. The action scenarios are excellent. I can easily watch this over and over again, it's just such a fun movie. The Cinephile's rating:
3rd time watching this. Watched on 3/9-10/11
This definitely isn't the greatest comedy ever made, nor the smartest, but I laughed various times, and The Ferrell/Reilly duo is spot-on. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched in 3/11/11
This could've been a good movie, it had the potential, but it took the cliche ridden/easy way out, and it was only suspenseful for a couple scenes, maybe. The Cinephile's rating:

Thanks. I try and mix it up and watch stuff from various directors and genres.
You got my vote!
Also, if you haven't seen it, check out [REC]. It is probably one of the best horror movies of the 2000's.
