The Cinephile's Film Journal: 2010
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/1/10
A lot of people won't be with me on this, but The Devil's Rejects is truly one of the greatest horror movies of all-time. It's similar a few movies, but much more original, and pulled off way better. It may remind you of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or something like that. This is a movie that comes around once in a blue moon. 9.4/10 The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/1/10
My second time watching this I finally realized it's true amazement, and that it definitely deserves a 10. One of the most moving and emotional films I have ever seen. Bring the tissues! 10.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:

One very funny dark comedy. Not quite as good as a lot, but highly enjoyable with some clever moments. 6.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/2/10
Not a very clever story, relatively too slow, and not a lot of intriguing moments to really pull you in. The cast was however good, and there were some very solid aspects. I just expected much better. 5.1/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/2-3/10
By far one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen. Very corny, predictable, and a disgrace to the Hills Have Eyes franchise. The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/3/10
Talk about a twisted movie! but a very well made one at that. You don't this type of movie often, and the originality really pulled me in. It's very weird, but somehow that makes it better. It's just something that isn't for everyone. Rob Zombie did very well. 7.9/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/3-4/10
A very good comedy featuring one of Hollywood's best George Clooney. He was I have to say excellent in this movie, and really showed his talent. Up In The Air is a heartfelt/moving comedy, and one of the best of 09. 8.1/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/4/10
The worst film in the series. Cornier, more predictable, but with a few entertaining scenes. 4.1/10 The Cinephile's rating:

A very interesting and unique take on a crime/suspense film. Not what I was expecting, but actually pretty good I must say. 7.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/5/10
One of the best drama/mystery/thriller's I have ever seen, and pure perfect performances from the lead roles. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and loved every minute of this film. Perfectly made! 10.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/6/10
A true masterpiece filled with joy, emotion, and sentimental value. A very special and excellently made film. The cast couldn't have been better either. 9.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Carell's second best behind Little Miss Sunshine. Others may not agree, but I found this film to be excellent. A tearjerker, and also quite a few laugh out loud moments. 9.4/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/6-7/10
A very very deep film, just not as good as it's hyped up to be. I did enjoy it quite a lot, and felt for the characters a lot. 7.3/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/7-8/10
A decent thriller, but way too "By the books". A bit enjoyable, but nothing special here, and easily avoidable. 5.8/10 The Cinephile's rating:

O'Connel's back! a good thing? sadly no. This is the worst movie in the series by far. To think they are making a 4th is mind boggling. Nothing is worth re-watching in this film, or for that matter watching at all. Of course with the exception of a few O.k. action scenes. The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/9/10
Very enjoyable, just a weak storyline, and not extremely likeable characters. I did however feel for Seymour Hoffman's character. Overall, I would recommend this movie purely for the character chemistry, and how well friendship is shown on screen. Just don't plan on caring to rewatch this one. Nothing special will drag you back. 6.1/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Christopher Nolan shines in this awesome epic about two rival magicians attempting to reveal each others secret tricks. Very appealing movie to me, and one of the best of the decade for sure. The acting is phenomenal, especially from Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. A great movie and recommended to everyone. 8.4/10 The Cinephile's rating:

The magic from the original lacks here, and for me it really made this movie hard to be a big fan of. The thrills were here and there, the characters weren't bad, but nothing worth rewatching. It's just my opinion however. 5.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:

A crazy good thriller, and quite frightening at that, due to how realistic and possible it is! one of the best films of 2006, and not to be missed! 9.2/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/10-11/10
A truly magical movie, and one of my all-time favorites. How can you not feel for John Coffey? Such an excellent movie, and the second best of 1999. 10.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Surprise Surprise, this movie is actually good! The story lacks, but the fight choreography and cinematography is all there, and very good. There are some epic duels in this one. Recommended to anyone into a nice action flick. 6.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/12/10
A drama/thriller filled with absolutely nothing new. I didn't feel my emotions boiling at all, and both main characters weren't easy to like. Just your average movie to me. 4.9/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Probably one of Seagal's best films. It's not that good, but still pretty entertaining in terms of pure action. The story is not so good, but take this movie for what it is. Much better than some will say. I was very surprised at the result. 6.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/14/10
An excellent film following two detectives in search of a missing girl. Perfect performance from mainly Casey Affleck, but the others were quite superb as well. Top notch cinematography to go with it, and one of best of this decade. 9.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Easily the worst superhero film I have ever seen, and obviously the worst in the series. The plot could have been spotted from thousands of miles away, and the cliche aspects were just too grueling for me. They could have put a bit more thought into this one you'd think. 2.8/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Just your average romantic comedy, but to be honest not as enjoyable as a lot of others. Once again the story mundanely predictable, and the characters weren't easy to feel for, with the exception of Justin Bartha's character, he was decent. I really don't get why they keep making movies exactly like this. People including me get sick and tired of it. 4.8/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/14-15/10
A heartwarming, fun, and extremely enjoyable romantic comedy. Adam Brody stole the show, and I really hope to see him more in movies. One of the best of 2007. 8.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Wow, who'd ever have thought this movie would be very enjoyable. If it was up to me, I'd say it should have crossed cinemas first, but instead it went straight to dvd. A highly enjoyable, sometimes clever movie, that will most likely be overlooked by many. 7.4/10 The Cinephile's rating:

If you think of this as just a normal comedy, opposed to an American Pie installment, it's actually pretty enjoyable. There isn't anything special mixed in, but it deserves a very solid 6/10. The whole movie is just your typical teen flick, but it can be fun at times. I wish they stopped after the third film, but take the low budget sequels for what they are. 5.7/10 The Cinephile's rating:

One of Bale's finest performances ever! His portrayal of an imsomnia ridden almost anorexic machine operator blew me away! Not to mention the story was absolutely brilliant, and had me guessing the entire time. Even though you have a slight idea of what's going on, you still are wondering why, and what's reality or just him seeing things. A pure excellent movie. 9.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/16-17/10
Truly one of the most tearjerking and moving films I have ever had the pleasure of watching. The inspiring story of Timothy Treadwell is both extremely sad and inspiring. I will admit, being the honest man I am, that I did indeed shed tears during this. Watch it for yourself, and you'll see why. It may not have the effect on everyone, but it made me think about my life a lot, and about what's truly important about it. 10.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/17-18/10
A very real movie, and one of the most unique ways of portraying a "buddy" cop film. There are virtually no annoying cliches, and the whole story is very spontaneous, as if it's real. A very underrated and overlooked cop drama, that is actually very good. 8.4/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/18/10
Ricky Gervais is usually always good, and his performance in this film is no exception. It wasn't exactly as funny as I would have hoped, but it gets better as the movie progresses, making it a solid comedy experience. The idea behind it is clever as well. 7.0/10 The Cinephile's rating:

Nearly every character is unlikeable, and you don't get a feel for any of them. Not even Matt Dillon was of value for me. The plot is as straight forward as can be, and the entertainment is value very low. Honestly, it was hard to like this film. A below average action flick with filled with nothing we haven't seen before. 4.5/10 The Cinephile's rating:
Watched on 1/19/10
A very enjoyable crime/gangster film, but nothing special. Johnny Depp is however great. The Cinephile's rating:
2nd time watching this. Watched on 1/11/10
Watched again for a 3rd time on 1/19/10 My second time watching this, I didn't laugh as much. Though I surprisingly enjoy this movie a lot. It's extremely dumb at times, but It's such a fun flick, with tons of laughs to be had. Seth Rogen does it again. This movie is hated on by so many people, but I do not care :) The Cinephile's rating:
