A haunting art form. Its quiet melancholic mood draws you in, a direct contrast from Hollywood’s noisy, heavy-with-effects type of moviemaking. Then there's the refreshing storyline that unfolded enchantingly with lead actors Lina Leanderson and Kare Hedebrants realistic portrayal so natural that puts Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart to shame. The creators were not sparing in showing sufficient amount of gore on certain scenes nor allowed themselves be carried away by bloodlust to make it rain with red goo. The well-crafted plot is delivered with efficiency while not straying from the traditional "lore" relating to vampire myth which is what I particularly liked.

Tarantino found another excuse to express gruesome violence without neglecting content and further reinforced it with a meaty dialogue that keeps you glued to the screen all ears and attention for fear of missing an important detail. As usual Tarantino delivers with finesse like no other. The conglomeration of Tarantino's directorial skills, the fast-paced, fluid plot and the actors’ extraordinary portrayal (except for Melanie Laurent who I perceive to be weak) delivered a smooth exciting ride out of this movie.

The plot is fluid, cohesive and cleverly realistic. I was initially surprised at how easy they got rid of the "big shots" that appeared in this movie which is clearly intended to establish the message that "this movie is not about big shots playing roles just to sell a story" but about real people and their situation in Iraq. At one point though Sgt. James character felt more like a caricature endowed with his seeming superhuman prowess in bomb detonation typical of protagonists in American war films but later redeemed himself(or not) while choosing for diapers in the supermarket. Hurt Locker is good but it doesn't guarantee a spot amongst the best in war film genre.

Dark comedy born from paranoia, a funny satire on idiocy, with brilliant performance from the cast. There were some dragging moments but they were able to pull it off quite well

Antichrist (2009)
It was daunting to make a position out of this film, ambivalence (to love or be repelled) towards it, is an inevitable source for confusion. Objectively speaking this movie is near flawless with 4 European awards(and still counting) they bagged says much about its quality but because of the grueling material which is of course intended to deliver the message, made it at certain instances difficult to watch. Also some of the sex scenes were unnecessarily excessive (perhaps intended to push the R rating). Dark and disturbing, this is an art form bordering to perversion. The plot rich with symbolism is well crafted, the sequences creative (esp photography), the casting amazing, the delivery outstandingly successful that it leaves you with a bitter after-taste and a dreadful heaviness hanging around the shoulders. This is one of the rarest of the rare instances where I had to turn my eyes away. Antichrist is a microscopic exposition of man's inherent evil, a dissection shown in three acts, the characters reminiscent of biblical figures Adam and Eve. You don’t just watch this movie; you EXPERIENCE it, an experience I'm apprehensive to repeat.

Is a creative and refreshing take on a love story gone awry, the storyline is realistic along with the actors’ portrayal of their roles. Its one of those movies that grows in you after watching it

This was supposed to be a non-fiction historical movie which gave a feel of being in Jane Austen's novels. Emily Blunt is a promising actress as much a Rupert Friend should be given more serious roles other than being a boy toy pretty boy; both of them were just impressive in this movie which is almost a fairytale that makes you forget it’s a biography.

Anne Hathaway's performance is phenomenal, a break from her usual sweet damsel roles

Watchmen (2009)
First thing I noticed is how far superhero costume making has evolved :D. Having read enough bad reviews about the movie, I was bound to expect the worse which perhaps is exactly the reason why I didn’t think it's that bad. The movie adaptation was mostly loyal to the comic book which I have also read, perhaps too loyal that it came across as stiff and dry on certain occasions. Music was particularly annoying as it clashes with the mood intended but the acting of the characters was just amazing. Particularly Jackie Earle Haley playing Rorscharch who despite his mask that limits his facial expression rose above the occasion and effectively breathed life to a 2 dimensional character. Overall the cast portrayal, the storyline and the delivery (sally Jupiter’s few lapses can be overlooked) made this movie a worthy watch

The attempt was to explore the psyche of a child coping with his personal battles with a broken family. The plot seemed promising and interesting but dragged on at certain parts. Though the acting is great the pace just became boring and had too many dead areas throughout the movie

Paper Heart (2009)
A mix between "when harry met sally", "wristcutters" and "science of sleep" but with a certain endearing uniqueness.

This movie is just over-rated for me; it may have won 3 European awards, but personally found it a struggle to keep myself interested. The presentation of the plot is intriguing, the actors effective but the pace was just excruciating. The anticipation of something big about to happen may have been a good enough reason to endure the boredom, but in the end the movie failed to deliver. Disappointment.

District 9 (2009)
The idea behind it is somehow unique or promising, maybe revolutionary, but the attempt was simply tragic. It begins as excessively angsty to the point it kills your enthusiasm to go through watching the whole movie, the part towards the ending may have something but overall its annoying and irritating
