A total mess and not very fun in that for the most part. Badly paced film that got tiresome kind of quickly. Gotta like the splatter effects of the era and the silly-ass jazz-funk spider scene, though.

To be commended for evoking claustrophobia extremely successfully; I almost wish the entire film was focused on that, instead of the cave-dwellers who are a tad lame in the end. The action scenes could've been directed better, and I found the characters pretty annoying. Nevertheless, this film has a cool premise and I think it succeeds pretty well as a genuinely thrilling horror film.

Another horror marathon entry that is hardly horror, but it's a fun, brutal and somewhat horrific western that reminded me of Cormac McCarthy. Perhaps could be a little shorter and definitely would benefit from a larger budget, but it shows a lot of promise for the director.

These special effects must have been spectacular in 1933, but today, the movie is just sort of fun and sort of irritating. In other words, it's exactly the kind of thing you can expect from a 1930s movie called The Invisible Man.

Should be as highly regarded as the other Carpenter classics, because it is a goddamn awesome film. Although I might've preferred it, if the villain were just the fog and it didn't manifest as some creepy dudes with sharp objects. But the film is classy as hell anyway. Kind of reminded me of the Lovecraft story "The Colour Out of Space".

The plot is a bit silly, the characters are caricatures and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance is disappointingly over-the-top here and there, but it's an alright nocturnal thriller nevertheless. I like Adams, Shannon and Gyllenhaal, so that helps, too. Also, there is some nice vintage Hollywood - or even giallo - vibe in the imagery and music during some of the Amy Adams parts.

DIRECTED BY Ruben Östlund

Like a mishmash of Östlund's earlier films Play and Turist. It almost falls apart in its almost vignette compilation esque structure, but it doesn't. Some parts I thought were a bit too drawn-out for their own good and the humor is not quite as funny as in Turist, but all in all it is another great addition to Östlund's great filmography (probably my favorite director of this decade).

This film needs much more exposure. Feels like the Reservoir Dogs of the decade. A modern hard-boiled Neo-Noir shot in five ~20-minute shots (about the duration of one 35 mm film reel). Complete with ace dialogue, great lead performance and a fun achronological structure.

Certainly not the strongest Coen Bros. film, but not one of their weakest either. I love how they capture the feel of the 1950s Hollywood, how Alden Ehrenreich steals the show and how good the musical sequences actually are. The film flies by very quickly, which is not something I can say about a lot of films. I think the biggest problem is that the script is perhaps not as sharp as it could be, feeling a bit like a Big Lebowski rehash. Also the humour is not quite as consistently funny you might expect from Coens.

Unintentionally watched this on the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death which was kind of fitting. Fun and kind of weird movie; weird mostly because Scott's direction is more serious than Tarantino's screenplay which makes an odd juxtaposition. Gary Oldman is hilarious.

Just as okay as Raiders of the Lost Ark. Some of it is more embarrassing and annoying, but some of the action scenes have a great energy. Not entirely sure, why people consider this somehow dumber than Raiders. The first encounter with the cult is awesome, but the cult gets tiresome quick.

Probably gonna rewatch all Tarantino films now that I'm reading this biography of him. I still find this kind of lackluster. The script has great ideas, but I don't think the non-chronological approach is the best fit for the film. The flashbacks kind of disrupt the pacing. The Keitel and Madsen ones particularly aren't very interesting, I like the Roth one though. Chris Penn annoys me immensely.

Näinhän se taitaa olla. Toinen vaihtoehto on se, että muutama kalja vie oksennuskuntoon.
