Hans Christian Anderson lived in Denmark in the nineteenth century, and penned some of the greatest fairy tales known - "The Little Mermaid," "The Snow Queen," "Thumbelina," and many many others.
His work has been the inspiration for many, and numerous films have been made about his works, including a biographical musical piece starring Danny Kaye.
The Hans Christian Andersen Center is a site which has many of Andersen's work in both Danish and English.
And another site which talks about his life.

And a statue celebrating one of Andersen's greatest works, "The Little Mermaid," which sits near Copenhagen's harbor.
